kaspersky & nod32 are considered the best among majority of users.keep away from mcafee products.norton too have improved their products over time but their 2006 or before products are bad.

I guess you are talking about Avast! Not Avastar or is there really an antivirus in the name of Avastar?!

By the way, i use Avast antivirus and this is the most lightest of the antivirus i have found and used ever. This is far better than the heavy avg antivirus.

Avast is a good antivirus. As per your requirements it is light on resources and it can detect viruses automatically you do not require to check manually everytime.Don't forget to update. You also have to install a firewall.Don't mind but stay away from any tempting sites ,. Also do not frequent warez.

NOD32 and Kaspersky are indeed one of the best available but you should always check periodically Virus Bulletin to see which ones are performing better. For better protection i would advice you to use DefenseWall HIPS along with your Antivirus+Firewall combination

I use NOD32 + Look 'n' Stop firewall(with Phant0m Ruleset)

start comp in safe mode by pressing F8 during startup, then work in safe mode and run anti virus,it will remove virus and containing files.but most important is to keep anti virus updated.

go to this site.one of the best sites for AV reviews----
AV-Comparatives
click on "comparitives" in left & then in right click on Retrospective/ProActive Test November 2007 online results(clicking report will open a pdf file).

only kaspersky & nod32 obtained the advanced+ certification.
