Apple Computers is finding itself landing in a little controversy because of a recently launched update to their operating system product.
As per information available, the operating system now contacts the Apple servers to check if the widgets installed on the machine are up-to-date.
The company claims that no personal information is transmitted back to the company’s server but the privacy advocates compare this to the Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy program recently launched by Microsoft.
An Apple representative said in a statement on this controversy: “Apple takes protecting user privacy very seriously. The Dashboard Advisory feature is a security tool that ensures the correct version of a widget has been downloaded from a third party site and no personal information is transmitted back to Apple.”
