Rep Power: 3 | Computer users around the world might have become smart enough to avoid running suspicious files on their computers but this is not going to stop the writers of malicious malware to stop releasing more viruses. Security Company McAfee Inc has said that they do not expect to see a drop in the number of viruses coming out in the wild. They just recently added the 200,000th definition to its threat database they expect this number to double in the next two years. These definitions are used by their security applications to identify virus and malware infected files. The serious virus outbreaks might have decreased in the recent times with firewall and antivirus applications becoming more widely used but there is always a possibility of something big happening anytime. Microsoft itself has recognized the threat and have emphasized on a secure working environment in the recent years. They have themselves entered the security application market with the launch of Windows Live OneCare service and claims that Vista would be the most secure operating system release from their stable. Jimmy Kuo, a research fellow at McAfee’s Avert Labs said in a statement on this issue: “There are now hackers for hire in spamming and phishing campaigns, and they’re in it to work. When you create a big incident, the police react and they go searching for you. So the bad guys don’t create these incidents anymore.” |
