| What happened to your last compression ? Was that a success ? If completed, please let know the size. |

Rep Power: 1 | I downloaded Munna Bhai MBBS which was just 1 mb. And when I tried to decompress it .... it says 1533 hrs remaining Surely this app is a waste of time .I can download the same file in an hour. Kgb will be used some day as a general purpose archiever....may be 10-20 yrs later ! 7-zip gives strong AES-256 encryption for both 7z and ZIP formats. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip programs. So even if I compress to zip format I use 7-zip because it gives better compression. |

| 7-zip and winrar are more or less equal in compression ratio, thing is that 7-zip is free. Dictionary size is a paramater which can vary the amount of compression. In winrar the maximum allowable size is 4096 Kb (4 Mb) , while in 7-zip its possible to have a maximum of 64 Mb. SO under some cases this causes significant compression in 7-zip format. However for normal compression purposes, both provide same compression. Quote:

KGB Archiver is an open-source software. I have installed both versions and didn't find any problems. It's a false positive. KGB Archiver version 1 is clean. Last edited by Archer; 08-28-09 at 06:07 PM. |

Rep Power: 6 | I am still confused. I have seen game/OS files with a file size of Giga Bytes compressed in to a megabyte or less. And they were in .zip format not .kgb. The downloaded files were working perfectly. So they were not fake. I tried to compress the same file in KGB Archiver in maximum setting and the result was a files size of 100 MB or more. I even tried to rename the .kgb files to .zip files and that didn't work either. How is this possible ? Is there any other way or software to compress files like that ? Thanks Dilip. |

Rep Power: 1 | nothing personal but what is the need of that time wasting compression S/W? and too when storage media is so cheap. |

Rep Power: 6 | Storage media is cheap, but Internet is not. Imagine if you can compress a 2 GB file into a 1 or even 10 MB file. Then you can upload/download the file in minutes/seconds and with very little data transfer. PS, It's hard to not believe after seeing this kind of compression in action many times. So far all the results are leading to KGB Archiver or 7 Zip, but I am going to keep searching. |

Rep Power: 2 | How much (approx.) time will it take to compress a 4 GB file ? I tried de-compressing a 4 GB and it took less than 1 min on my 1 GB PC. |

Rep Power: 3 | surely this software depends upon RAM.if u have more memory then u can compress faster otherwise it will tell thousands of hours. For eg. my pc has 1GB RAM and i can't compress using maximum rate. and i tried in a 3GB laptop i compressed at maximum rate and it told only 30 mins. |
