    Default KGB Super Archiver

Has anyone tried the Super Archiver (attached). It can really compress files .. and when I say "really compress" it is means way-way really compress. I tried compressing the entire GTA San Andreas installable and it compressed to 64 KB!!!

Don't take my word for it - try it yourself.

Downside? Uncompressing takes quite a while to finish.

And attached is the GTA San Andreas game.

    Important Note:

    1. Rename this file from .zip to .kgb
    2. Use the Super Archiver to unarchive

Dont know what sort of machine you tried this on but mine says 6 hours something ... You need a couple of gb's more RAM to speed this up I guess..

Sorry just4kix I had to remove that attachment unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing this cool application.

Normally, I would not reply to such idiotic posts but some serious charges have been leveled against me (especially the CAPS part). So my answers:

    1. It does work. The program is very resource intensive and you need a Core2 Duo processor + min 1 GB RAM for this. Even then it will be very slow as might be expected.
    2. It does not have a virus. I had it checked. Maybe there is something at your end.
    3. GTA-SA was attached but later removed as per forum policy. A few people did download it before it was removed.
4 & 5. This has been created and it works. I have tested it myself.

FINALLY, I do not flood the forum with stupid mails - ask any one on this forum who has been here for a while. If you choose to be close minded then that is your outlook.

WinZip and WinRAR result in more or less similar compression ratio. I had posted quite a while ago, a compressor called, Super Archiver (do a forum search). It can compress a lot, and when I mean compress, really compress - it compressed the full GTA-Vice City game to 64 KB!!!

But it requires huge memory, time and other resources to do that - not only to compress but also to uncompress.

    Hi,

WinZip and WinRaR are good ones, but 7Z provides maximum compression but it would require good amount of time as well as resources..so if you can afford both of this then you can use it.

Winrar besides giving decent compression is good because it supports a lot of file formats & if time-efficient in compression. The additional features like repairing etc are also useful.

I have heard 7z provides the best compression in the lot. Also KGB Archiver is also one of such softwares worth pondering about.

The best compression is of 7Zip's (.7z). Way better that .rar or .zip. But I use Winrar because .rar or .zip are mostly used. And also it's SFX (Self Extracting Archive) utility is better than the other ones. Now I am going to give 7zip a try.

I searched the net for Super Archiver after seeing that thread. But the results was the same thread. I think they changed name to KGB Archiver.

7zip (.7z) decompression is supported in Winrar. But the process causes many problems (eg: missing files, data corruption etc). There is no other way but to use 7zip to decompress .7z archives.

does 7z provide password protection as strong as winrar ? i mean to say that winzip passwords were easy to break ... but winrar password protection was really gr8 ... i tried many hacking tips on the net to break winrar passwords but never had success ... where does 7z stands in this regard?
