Microsoft discontinues Private Folder 1.0 application after security dilemma Software giants Microsoft did it again. Instead of solving the problem, they have decided to kill the source of the problem.
The company recently launched an application named Private Folder 1.0 to enable user to encrypt their files with a password.
However, this application resulted in system administrators complaining about the lack of details on how they would recover data in case the owner of the system forgets the password. They also said that it is a potential security hazard in a corporate environment as the company failed to provide enough details to make it easier for them to disable it on the network.
Microsoft responded after they discontinued this application: “Private Folder 1.0 was designed as a benefit for customers running genuine Windows. However, we received feedback about concerns around manageability, data recovery and encryption, and based on that feedback we are removing the application today.”
The application was developed as a special offering for people running Genuine Windows OS under the Windows Genuine Advantage program. |
