Rep Power: 2 | Firefox and Chrome are good browsers, they start very fast. |

| Platinum Member | chrome starts fast, yes, but definitely not so with ff, the first start at least after switchin on the comp. it takes about 10 secs just to startup, the subsequent starts are very fast tho.! maybe its my comp (1.2gig ram, p4 2.8, xp pro) causing the delay. but i use firefox preloader for the problem, but it causes some more problems but i can live with them. |

Rep Power: 6 | You are right. Firefox will take at least 10 secs to start first. After that it will only take 2 sec or less. |

Rep Power: 6 | Its called Cold Start and Warm Start. Cold Start: First start after booting OS. Warm Start: Starting browser after closing. When it come to that Chrome is the fastest. If you are using Adblock, removing unnecessary filter subscriptions will speed it up a little. Also like StarryKnight mentioned, you can use Firefox Preloader (840kb application). After installing, it will only take you less than 3 secs to load Firefox. At the same time it will cause problems when updating Firefox. If you are not planing on updating Firefox then it's fine. I won't recommend using it. |

| I am a great fan of Opera, having used it from version 6. When it comes to features nothing can beat firefox today, mainly owing to its open source nature and active development. But still i find a couple of reasons why i like opera the most, -> Very innovative - Always the one to think of new features which are then copied to others (no offense, jus my personal opinion). -> Closed source, yet freeware -> feature rich but not bloated ( classic opera vs 5mb+ setup for other major non-IE based browsers). -> Uses less memory when compared to firefox 3 with necessary add ons to provide opera like features.(except FF 2+firefox optimizer). -> handles disk cache memory very well, even wid 30,000 items (!) in cache its indexes and loads websites faster.(I jus get the embedded videos from cache, no need for a saperate downloader). -> In built ad-blocker,fraud sites adviser, bookmarks, notes sync, mail client, rss feeds, grab search. -> I've to be honest here, the 2-10 ms delay by which opera may process scripts is not much of importance TO ME, considering whole a 50s wait for my os to load. -> when it comes to startup times opera is leader of the pack. That said, sadly it does have certain disadvantages, -> many sites do not support opera. -> not having as many add ons as FF ALL in all , I feel opera is a dark horse, only discovered by those with real adventure in them. |

Rep Power: 6 | What do you think about it so far ? It says in the website that, they are using new rendering engine called Opera Presto 2.2. And is going to be 30% faster. Anyway it's good that they included spell checker. |

And, saying about spell checker....It is good to have added that. But, the word database is not so good. Anyway, that doesn't matter too much. Overall, the browser has improved... | |

Rep Power: 6 | Opera 10 Alpha is a little faster than other versions. But still doesn't support scripts much. The spell checker is not as good as Firefox's, but it's better than not having one at all. They have not even tried to improve/modify inbuilt Bit-Torrent downloader after adding it. My Ad-Blocker is working with Opera 10 alpha. So I will give it a try. Last edited by Archer; 01-07-09 at 07:16 PM. |
