This forum prohibits mention of Warez (pirated stuff)... So pls no discussions about Warez...

And yes you get very good free anti virus softwares

Do not go in for free AVG ... in my experience its useless

Go for Avira Anti-virus free personal edition
Read the user review for this anti-virus

Avira AntiVir Antivirus Review in Anti Virus Software at Review Centre

and download at
Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir

or
Avast Home Edition
Read review and download at
Avast Home Edition - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

I like AVG and using AVG 8.0 it never gave me any problem and gets auto update after every 4 hours, you can give it a go and can download it from download.com and its available in 2 versions, paid and free. You can use whichever you like

You should never ever use a pirated/warez version of an Antivirus or a Security Tool. It will do more damage than any viruses ever will.

Free Antivirus Softwares with Download links.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus

Avast Home Edition

BitDefender Free Edition

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition

ThreatFire AntiVirus Free Edition

All of these are Popular(from the top) and Free versions.

I recommended Avast Home Edition .

Good Luck !

hmmmmmmm................Good idea I am going to create a Thread on this.

Hey i agree AVG is the most popular

Smoothvibes just download and install some other anti-virus ... say Avira anti-virus .... Run a scan ... i ll bet you anything it ll detect viruses never detected by AVG

I use Avast pro after using many freeware /commercial wares including but not limited to Nortan,E-scan,NOD32,AVG,Panda,Kaspersky,Avira,Symantec etc

I think Avast is the best .... and in free version Avira is the best

Just google Avira antivirus reviews and check it out
or simply ask Starry Knight ..

Who says Solaris is complex. Yes it is UNIX so it is as complex as UNIX can be.

I have worked on Solaris shell scripts but I am not much conversant with awk, lex or yacc.

yaar i you want a free antivirus i think avg or avast is best
but free antiviruses donot gaurd your system well as they are free , also u don't get frequent updates and also no guarentee for system crash.
but u can use genuine antivirus ,
well u can use bitdefender antivirus 2008 it is only rs 400 per year .
i am using bitdefender antivirus and my pc is running fantistic.
or u can go for quick heal if u can invest more .
quick heal total security is nearly 1800 rs for one year but it is fantastic as it has a pc to mobile scan , and also many other features.
now the choice is yours
as far as pirated or cracked antiviruses are concerened i am not in favoure of them , as most of them gets blocked when u update them .

@^^^ This is not true in case of avira... the same virus defs are used, just the free version lacks spyware detection, and updates only once every 24 hrs, and displays a popup ad every time it updates (but i have a workaround for that ).. But i've never come across spyware on my system with any software (inc avira premium). If you are still feeling insecure install windows defender or something like that.

@ Prasanta 08

Ofcourse you can update it from internet ! .....

You can install a firwall if you like ...... According to me Windows Firewall is just fine .... Otherwise try Comodo Firewall Professional(free)... just started using it ....Pretty impressed with it ..
check this post
http://www.indiabroadband.net/softwa...-software.html (Free Version Security Software)

I agree with the above post.. i have used both freewares and Commercial wares .... The good ones are always good ...regardless of whether they are free or not

It is recommended to use a Firewall and a adware/spyware scanner with the Antivirus.
