I was hurt, so decided it was time to go: Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly has finally broken his silence on the move and says he was hurt at not being included in the squad for the Irani Triophy.

I didn’t like the way I was dropped from Irani Trophy and that is when I decided to quit. It took me around 2 weeks to come to this decision,” - Gangully

Ganguly also said his family has been supportive of his decision. “I didn't want to create a big fuss over this. I know my family will be disappointed but I had to do this sooner or later,” - Gangully

The "Prince of Kolkata" also recalled his favourite moment. "That has to be my first Test at Lords," - Gangully

You are right. Its high time the seniors will have to pave way for juniors. But I just can't think over a match without those 'apart from imagination' sixes for those spinners. Who will bring it back? Who will be able to recreate those 1996 matches? Who can be such an aggressive captain here after? Dhoni is going to be the best captain as he is proving a lot when he's just new. But still, the aggressive captain is Ganguly.

'I still have two more years left' - Ganguly often said this with hope. But unfortunately he has to depart from Indian Cricket team now itself. His hope of playing for two more years is dead.

Can never forget you Saurav. You are one among those my ever favorite sportsmen. Will miss him greatly.

Saurav Ganguly lacked tactfullness and lacked diplomacy... Dhoni (Although I don like him personally) has it all it takes to be a captain.

Captaincy is not all about agression ... You need to be very diplomatic and tactfull and Ganguly has proven at many occasions that he doesnt have enough of either of these two things.

Besides being tactfull and diplomatic one also needs to be able to play good cricket and also have a certain amount of charisma which Ganguly lacked...

I have watched a few of Ganguly's matches including his debut and just loved his batting but that was then ... move on and make room for fresh blood.

One should retire with grace and Ganguly made it worse for himself by the day.. Its not the best of exits I have seen before...

Azharuddin was kind of same story ... He should have retired atleast two years earlier then he actually did.

Sachin has got the diplomacy but he lacks the charisma one needs to have to be heard and followed.... although he is the best batsman I have ever seen on tele.

He was a great players cricket player. And I think under his captainship the Indian team gained a lot. It was a very different team before he became captain, like less agressive, but Sourav Ganguly started bringing youngsters and poured passion into the team.

Hopefully we would see Ganguly in IPL and ICL matches

And he would play without any pressure this time.

Ganguly has denied that he made a hairstyle comments ever... says the bengali magazine published it without him speaking like that... wotever.. he was a good leader who knew how to charge the team in his own way... we can't ignore the fact that under his leadership India started winning outside sub-continent... he knew how to take out most from his players... he didn't even winked when criticizing Tendulkar on couple of occassions... and that really charged up Sachin... He handled the youngsters really well... Sehwag, Bhajji, Yuvi, Dhoni, Zaheer, Pathan were all backed & nurtured by him... We can't ignore his contribution to Indian cricket...

btw, he should have retired from ODIs after world cup debacle in 2007... but its the right time for him to retire from test cricket... especially cuz last season he was among the runs.... his century in the current series 2nd test against Aussies once again proved his fighting attributes...
