Although not strictly a Formula 1 race, the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1955 had an enormous impact on all categories of motorsport, for the worst possible reason. June 11th is known as one of the blackest days in racing history due to the terrible crash that took place. 84 spectators were killed along with one driver(Pierre Levegh) of Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.

1) I found this video on rediff ishare - as the world's worst drag racing accident ever ... i couldnt find much details about the accident on net. but here is the link to video.

2) Tom Pryce F1 accident 1977 - known to be the worst F1 accident ever - the driver was killed in the accident.

Official and driver killed in Tom Pryce accident during 1977 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami.Formula 1 racing driver Tom Pryce from North Wales died in a tragic and bizarre accident in the South AfricanGrand Prix in 1977.

Two track marshals ran across the road, in an attempt to put out a minor fire on Renzo Zorzi's (Tom Pryces teammate) car. Zorzi had parked his car on the other side of the track. Ironically, Zorzi had alreadyextinguished the fire himself.

One of the marshals was hit by Pryces car which doing speeds of over 300 kmph. The marshal was sliced as he was hit and the 20 pound fire-extinguisher he carried flew into
Pryce's cockpit, hitting him in the face with enough force to launch the extinguisher over the top of the main Grandstand.

the idea is nice but why only motorsports accidents? accidents from any sports like football stadium collapses etc etc would also have been interesting.

That F1 accident involving Tom Pryce is really ironic... No one should die like that...

Ya, i was also expecting your reply on here after i posted the second post. And, now i also missed the thread for some days.
