So eventually Australia lost. And they are out of the tournament. No skin off my nose - I don't like most of their players anyway.

But this brings again to an argument I was making a couple of days ago:

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sports-forum/18626-icc-world-t20-2009-discussion-board-lets-choose-one-team.html#post168971
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sports-forum/18626-icc-world-t20-2009-discussion-board-lets-choose-one-team.html#post168986

I was arguing that this format is not correct. And saurav presented a counter viewpoint saying World Cup Football also follows a similar practice. And so on ... we argued and then let it rest. But something was telling me that I was missing something obvious.

And then I said "EUREKA"! The T20 cannot be compared with football because in T20 cricket is pure matka, i.e., a gamble. Anyone can click on their day - unlike football. The T20 game is afterall not a true measure of character and strength. A football game anywhere in the world is always played the same way and for the same time length. A T20 game is very brutal - one mistake and it is all over; not so in football.

As I said, I don't care if Australia lost - but it could have easily been India. Hence I say that the grouping format, draw and qualifying is completely flawed.
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

So finally it seems that our prediction for Super 8 teams are going to be true

Brilliant Innings by Sangakara and Dilshan. Good contribution by mubarak 21 (12).

Some very good shots by Mitchell Johnson too. Two sixes in Murali over.

    Finally Aussies are out.:14:

Well football is 90 min + Extra time game which can't be shortened, As far as T20 is concerned i believe that's a nice invention to lure busy cricket lovers, You see it for 3 odd hours and "It's over", Football players moulded themselves in the only format of game, now it's time for cricketers to mould it accordning to T20.

Obviously test match truly reflect what you can do in cricket field, But in T20 it's all about action (You have to accept that)... Also we see less upsets in crickets rather than football, Senegal, Nigeria, Russia, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, Ivory Coast these all are OK-OK team which can turn the game everytime they play agaisnt BigWig ..

And if any team lost in cricket i just say the oppsotion played good cricket, That's all

Indian played poor cricket against Bangladesh and Sri-lanka in WC2007 in West-Indies

    Ok, what about today's Matches

    First Match:

    Pakistan V/S Netherland

I'll be happy if any of the teams wins. Pakistans win means prob clash of India and Pak, Netherland win means one more strong team out of the tournament which inturns benifits India.

J4k, I am/was not arguing. Just putting my viewpoint. the format you suggested gives every team a fair chance of coming back even if they loose one or two matches in the beginning. But, think about the length of the tournament also. The format you suggested will take 30 matches in the group stage. The current format takes only 12. Yes, chances are less. One upset can eliminate a strong team. This is the fun of T20 cricket. In test match cricket you get many chances in a single match itself to come back.

Now, I dont see the elimination of Aus as a upset. Both SL & WI are good teams, specially in T20. Both the teams completely outplayed Aus.

Good teams can still come back in this format also after loosing one match. Just like England did. They lost the first match to Holland and they made sure in the second match that they will qualify for the super-eights.
    -------------------

SL has a major advantage in this WC now. They are laready almost through to the semi-final. Why?

    - They will for sure get Ireland as an opponent in Super - eights.
    - Most probably they will also get Netherlands if they manage to qualify (which is the most likely option).

    ----------------

The most likely groups divisions in super-eight is:

    Group - 1

    India
    South Africa
    England
    West Indies

    Group - 2

    Sri Lanka
    Ireland
    Netherlands(likely)/Pakistan
    New Zealand.

    -----------------------

Now, India has got real tough times ahead. A bit of strategy may help change the scenario. Probably India loosing to Ireland might help. Will India let Ireland Win? I wont mind that at all.

    Second Match:

    S.A V/S N.Z

I think both the teams should be out of the tournament. I would S.A to win this game

Agree with you, Regarding the format.
But disagree on loosing part.. It's not acceptable to me that india loose to ireland, That's real unsporty, You play for win only and you'll win

Yaar, Main kyon bol raha hoon ki Netherlands have the upper hand!!??

Take a look at the Net Run Rate:

    Netherlands: +.05
    Pakistan: -2.40

That means, Pakistan will have to defeat Netherlands by a handsome margin.

I also want Pakistan to qualify somehow. I want India to humiliate Pakistan yet again. :taz: Aus bhi bahar ho gaya, Pakistan bhi nikal jaayega to Haraayenge kise??

Yaar, Jung ke maidan mein Taaqat ke saath Dimag bhi lagana chahiye. Even I wont be happy if India looses to Ireland. But if loosing to Ireland means getting opponents like - Ireland, Netherlands/Pak in Super-eights, wouldnt it be good?

Nah, That's kind of humiliation if world champion looses to ireland... Play like champ, Beat everyone just like we did last year.. No need to make this kind of strategy... There are still good teams in the tournament, SA, NZ(Actually i want Ind Vs NZ in finals)...Bas NZ hi hai jo harati hai ind ko :32:
