Default Is 4-day Test Match Idea is Good for Cricket ?

As ICC President David Morgan has already said that to increase popularity in test match cricket few modification is needed like
    1. Increase of over rate
    2. Day/Night test match using colourful ball
    3. 4-day test match rather that five day
But still few question is present because test match is a classical version of cricket so when we watch such game that time we never want such short time enjoyment like T20. Normally Cricket lovers watch the test match cricket with completely different mode so why this test cricket will compete with T20/ODI ?
Second thing is Test match is more than 125 years old game although few modification happen in test match cricket also but still the basic thing is same so to change such thing is good for cricket ?

I prefer a longer game. Maybe a week. Start on Monday
and play 3 hours a day till Friday. Saturday and Sunday
they play 6 hours each day. I would like that format.

I think 90 overs per day is sufficient. Test matches cannot be played by the White ball because the white ball has a lot of problems:

    - it looses shine and shape quicker
    - it becomes very dirty soon
    - it swings more in the first 20 overs
    - since a 60-over old white ball will never exist (because of reasons above), classic finger spin will disappear

The format I would propose is:

    a) 90 overs per day
    b) One day = 1 innings unless a team gets bowled out earlier. In this case, the other team gets the bonus overs for the day.
    c) No other restrictions like those of a 50-over, 20-over game (fielding restrictions, number of max overs per bowler, etc.)

Like it or not, test match cricket is the true test of a player/team.

On the other hand, the four-day affair may not be really necessary. 80% of the tests today result in a win-loss unlike some years ago. These results are more or less achieved in 4 days anyway. And many times, a draw is just as thrilling.

We have ODIs and t20s for those who want instant nirvana.
A 5 day, 4 innings Test match is for those who wants to enjoy the pleasures of the game, sipping gradually into the excitement. The thrills and tensions that a 5 day match can produce can never be matched by either the ODI or the T20. A Test match also brings the real test of the players and separates the Big players from the also runs.
Had there been no Test matches, players like Chandrasekhar, Marshal, Holding, Botham, Imran, Hadlee, Boycott, Kapil Dev, Gavaskar, Warne, Border, Murlitharan, Kumble and many more would never had stood out from the rest and made their mark in the history of cricket.
Test Cricket should be left as it is, the classic brand of cricket, just like Wimbledon and Devis Cup is for Tennis.

i read somewhere but not sure, new form of limited overs cricket is being designed by ICC. it would be 40 overs. each team will play two innings of twenty overs. and pink ball will be used. this we can call a very short form of test cricket and longer version for T20 format.

even read about 10 overs cricket, with lots of new rules ,bowling powerplay for first two overs. batsmen can opt for a power over anytime after the powerplay, where every run scored by batting team will be doubled. a special zone on the field where batsmen can score 8 runs instead of six. and many more such thing.

i can't understand why ICC wants to make the game so complicated. we already have many forms of cricket, like TEST MATCH, FIFTY OVER, TWENTY OVER, SIX A SIDE, TWO WICKET CRICKET, BEACH CRICKET etc. i don't think any other popular sport has so many variety.

With the advent of T20 test cricket seems urgent modernisation for it to survive

There is no need to change format of Test-cricket.As panchabhut said, we already have a few shorter versions of the game.

The problem with 4-day test match are :
1.-If the teams play test cricket as it is playing now(in terms of slowness), then it would result in increased number of drawn matches.

2.-For four day matches team will declare their innings early which means less number of batting/bowling milestones.
