I was only interested about the One-Day International (ODI) rankings after the India vs. South Africa ODI series. With the shorter and livelier twenty20, 50 over ODIs had started to feel dragging and boring. But on 24th of February, 2010, I was blown away by one man who ruled the Cricket world on that day: "Sachin Tendulkar".
I have always been a fan of the gracious batsman. From the age of 16, he has shown the talent and commitment needed by a great cricketer. But over the years and spurting up of young talent, I was of the opinion that new players should be given preference over veterans to play in international matches. And Sachin Tendulkar has struck me dumbfounded with this one innings.
The first double-century in the history of ODI. Slowing down while approaching his century as usual, Tendulkar picked up his pace and blasted away 3 fours in Kallis's over. In his innings, he faced 147 balls with a strike rate of 136.05. His 25 fours and three sixes, were a treat to the eye. The double century was Tendulkar's 46th ODI centuries.
Towards the end of the Indian innings, I was screaming in front of my Television to "go for it and make the first double century of ODI" together with the thousands watching. And Little Master, personally, I apologise for thinking that at the age of 36, it was time for you to step down for younger blood.
