Thread: Private messaging

I have been reciving complaints from regular members here regarding private message spamming for a long time now and its something I have been suferring from as well.

I have got not alternatives but to disable private messaging on the forum for the time being untill I find a way to prevent PM spamming.

Some regulars get as many as 20 something PMs every day of advertisments and job offers and all that bullshit.

I am looking for an effective way to control this spamming (some of which is automated) and then we can enable it again.

I'm not sure...But I guess all of us have an option to block incoming PMs... don't we? So those who r finding PM irritating can use that feature... Still, u know best!

I dont understand why people spam in the first place, why cant they use their initiative and get traffic in their own ways, in stead of spamming on other peoples sites and taking their traffic! Its cheap and it goes to show how crap the site actually is, as they need to spam!

Its not that sort of spam... its mostly people Pming asking for help with their queries... probbably dont understand that this is what the forum is for and there is nothing too personal about asking in the forum how to set up a router or how they can maximise torrent speeds and all that stuff.

I am tired of replying to people saying please post in the forum. I get atleast 15-20 messages every day with queries

Well spamming is also a kind of advertisement.
It's just as annoying as TV ads.

This option is good for blocking that. Right ?

And there are some people who just send private messages asking people to visit their sites thats stupid when I dont have any problems with people advertising their sites in signatures

I have no idea why some people do that when they can do a lot of advertising on the forums any way... why knock door to door when there is a mass communication tool here right on the forums using signatures

Paid or not. I think it's still wrong. Some ad's are okay for the good/free service they provide. But some people take advantage of this and really over do it.

I can understand ur point Admin... Even I get few requests time-to-time for some help related to computers & internet... but the no. isn't too high yet... so its not bothering me... I'm yet to get a spam PM concerned with advertisement... So, I guess I'm luckier than others so far... but if this thing is happening... then the members can inform u asap... & u can add 1 more criteria for ban... that spamming in PM results in Ban...

Why are paid tv ads bad?

I think that any spamming should be reported to Admin, nothing to that!

Its not good for the forum and the spammers gets away with doing it the dirty way by sending private messages, like Admin said why not include it in your signature!

I never said paid ad's are bad. But, TV Chanel producers keep watch for the program rating, and shows the most ad's for the best TV show. Aren't they taking advantage of us by doing that. We are being forced to watch all those Ads.

I agree with that. Is there a report Button for PM's. I don't remember.

Well getting away after spamming is not the issue. It's about spamming. A way to stop people from spamming or thinking about spamming.

PM should be there... i never got a singl spam...

i think one best thing is.. who ever gets spam and is sick n tired of that user.. just report it to admin..or kixxi.. and then they will just ban that user forever.. thats the punishment they should recieve.. bloody spammers.. i just hate em all..........

even i get some stupid PM daily, most of them ask funny things like how to open a thread or how to post in forum, if you all remember just few days back i started a thread for someone here but still some people keep on sending PM's for help and resolution.

and my reply is same
please check abc section or thread otherwise open a thread in xyz section so that everyone can contribute

Thankfully only sensible people PM me.

i feel like knocking off their teeth..lol
