ok this is nice idea to display it as an alert but alert can not work works non members (guests) for them any highlighted link on page can do the trick.
Right now admin is busy with a big project for this forum and possibly its on the way as an new year gift for all of us
admin can provide a list of topics but then again there is a problem of duplicate threads and all so better idea is to pick any good topic of own choice

Let him come, i am sure he got something good in mind

My 2 cents:

• It should not be a contest proper, so to say. People should simply submit their posts because they want to post, not because they have the goal of winning some contest
• Then, out of the posts people have made, you can choose one or a few which deserve to be called the best post/s
• The criteria of selecting the post/s and deciding about the best post/s should be written down and posted here
• It is not about articles, it is about posts. Articles is a more formal term
• The present style is very obtrusive. If I am writing a post, after having done that, I have to come to this thread and hyperlink to that entry; this means, I leave my chain of thought and writing. Instead of this, if you can provide a hyperlink on every entry which will automatically submit that entry (post) for consideration in that week's contest, that would be better. Entering the contest needs to be unobtrusive and must not interfere with the flow.

You want to encourage people to participate more - I believe that is the idea behind this contest.

Actually, most of the usual posts won't be eligible for the contest, because the post (or article) should contain at least 300 words to be eligible.

It is not possible for just one person to do all the posting.
So, we all have a great hand in keeping the contest alive. :22:

We can accept his argument. But, he still gets time for many other things here.

Hmmm, I don't agree with that argument! Contribution of 15mins towards something wont kill a person!

I think the idea already mentioned that their should be set topics each week is something good, as everyone can write on one topic, rather than some people's posts being drifted away and not being noticed!

This will not only be good for the forum but also the people participating in the contest too. And also a weekly email of the contest is good. I remember getting 2 emails in the beginning but didn't get one for this week!

Agreed that most of the usual posts won't be eligible but not due to the reason you stated (300 words min.); instead due to the reason that they won't contain quality or relevance enough (like this reply by me should not enter the contest. However, brevity is the soul of wit, so I do not understand the 300 word lower limit).

To me, it appears you are after proper articles only (a forum is not the place for that though IMHO).

I was not in, now I am decidedly out (of the contest, in its present form).

I do not remember having suggested one person should do all the posting either. Maybe the tools of the forum are not sophisticated enough...anyway.

We all know what a forum is, but this article contest is somewhat different, it actually creates more competition and makes it different from posting!

Brain storm people about the contest, we only got a day left, maybe we can get some changes in the next weeks contest!

Archer you have said your not satisfied with the contest, post why you arent, so it can help in making the contest better. I think its good to hear from those who are not happy with it because they can point out whats wrong which will help in making it better!
