Thread: Making IndiaBroadband.net Bigger

I had a concern Adminjii/Modji....Can I give a negative reputation if I find any post/thread irrelevant or annoying..

Admin and all,

We started the contest with the best of intentions. We wanted to encourage active members as well as 'sleepers'. We gave the incentive of a prize money that would be substantial. The idea was not only to encourage participation but also get more traffic. More traffic means more benefits.

What we expected was people would create new threads, throw new topics for a (healthy) debate, exchange ideas, share problems and solutions, etc.

Instead what happened was that people started digging old dead threads and replying into them. This has greatly dis-serviced the genuine. The search function is not biased and will show up all new unread items. As madz said, it has become difficult to hunt genuine problems.

But having said all this, I will still say that we go ahead with the competition and the next one also. But we have some stricter rules.

- Posts/replies in threads dead for more than one month be disqualified
- 70% weightage to be given to new threads
- Posts in Entertainment and Recreation, General offtopic discussions and Buy, Sell or Trade not to be counted (old rule only)

I am not sure whether there is an automatic way of collecting such stats. But this is worth a try.

@Rameshjee, yes, you can give negative reputation as well. If you give -ve reputation, based on you rep power, those many points will be deducted from the posters rep count.

Ahh so i see that the search function is indeed not working properly. I thought some problem with my profile. Even messaged the Admin stating the same.

yes posts are getting duplicated from last two days and i agree with just4kix that we can continue the competition but with some stricter rules to keep the spam out of picture, any user found spamming or posting in dead threads should be disqualified so that the genuine members can get the reply on time.
I just checked some of the new threads where the problem and solution both are baseless but still some people are talking about rocket science and experiments.

i posted this with my other suggestions in the suggestion thread also ... but this thread is more relevant for this ...

how about creating different sub-forums for indian major IT companies like infosys,tcs,wipro etc under IT & tech discussions ... this will attract lot of traffic to this forum via google i guess and will also be be useful for current members ...

sub-forums under laptops like lenovo,dell,sony etc... will also be a very good idea

That's would be too much, just short names sections is good like laptops (instead of brand names).

And how would this make the forum bigger!

Yes. I think that you are right. Having too many sections like that would not be of much help (I think so). And, probably we won't have much users posting there. We can ofcourse have discussions about different companies in the forum without a new thread. The only probable problem is that it may die out, even with good posts that would be helpful.

we really need not to start new sub sections like dell, sony, lenovo as laptops and other sections are already solving our purpose, we can just add proper tags or search keyword to threads

can we not even have some sticky threads for lenovo, dell, hp etc etc laptop brands in the laptops section?

If we have too many sticky threads like that, then it wouldn't be good for new threads.

That's true dhaneshv, but i don't understand whats the actual point in having sections or even sticky's for each brand of laptop!

Its like having a section for all the celebrities in the bollywood section!

It wouldn't be worth it or be feasible enough it would ruin the forum and like dhaneshv said then no one would create new threads!

Talking about new sections, do someone cares about a section on Stock Market?

There is actually a discussion going about for implementing the same somewhere in this forum.. I remember going through it this day..

the stock market section is in demand and i know it was being talked about so many times, but never got implemented!

I wonder even if 10% of the suggestions in this thread were implemented

Yes yes, it brings back the old memories , and i've nt seen some of the threads myself, jus go thru each them, which I bring up, i'm sure u'll enjoy them....

I think some things have been implemented according to other members there have been groups created on facebook and orkut

I mean i am just looking for a printer which can print all tshirts and can deliver them in different city's directly without our involvement. till now i got 2 providers but they are charging double of the amount.
