Thread: Making IndiaBroadband.net Bigger

Being a part of such a big and reputed forum does make me feel good, and its because of the people here and the contribution that everyone puts into the forum.

But it would be good to see IndiaBroadband.net grow even bigger, by getting more members and more discussions!

But how can this happen, if any of you have any ideas post them here!

One of the ideas i have is that we can include a signature in our emails, (whether work or personal emails) mentioning IndiaBroadband.net!

Sending a signature advertising indiabroadband.net is not a good idea.. Yeh private e-mails if and when you send them can include a link to the forum and I am sure it would help.

IBB is a very well-maintained forum. If any relevant topic is searched on net, IBB almost always comes up. Thats y I thought it wld be a good idea to include some dedicated sections and enriching em with relevant topics which are searched almost every second through google. I had mentioned such an idea about a gamers' section to admin quite some time back. It may attract attention.

yes a gaming section is a very good idea, as its quite popular and there are hundreds of people who take interest in games!

Just to add im looking for both ideas which can be conducted on the forum and ideas which can be done on an individual basis or in groups!

I got another idea can we open another Women section
where new topics like
new born's care, parenting tips or something like that can be discussed coz i think most of the mothers or pregnant ladies try to search forums to clear all doubts and try to gain more and more knowledge online.

You can create sub-forums for the most popular sports:
* Cricket is popular all over India and needs its own place
* Football is very popular in north-eastern states and Bengal
* Setting up a distinct forum for every single sport may be an overkill, but one can create a sub-forum for other sports, make it clear in introduction to that sub-forum that if any given sport has sufficient traffic, it would be given its own sub-forum

One Youth section should be created because that constitutes the biggest group of people visiting your forums.

With the introduction of 3g services, Broadband forums need a Mobile Broadband forum too, I can see mobile broadband catching up in a couple of years time (now it is admin's choice when he wants to create this forum)

Maybe we need another sub-forum titled Virtual Societies (you can name it differently, here people can discuss myspace, orkut, facebook, secondlife, and so many more online communities (heck, you can even name it online communities)

Another sub-forum titled online finance - issues like online banking, stocks and shares forums etc. can be discussed there

Similarly, a few other things can be added.
Some re-organization is also needed.

I personally think that:
i) Virtual communities is not going to be that frequented, people will rather visit portals like facebook and orkut than discuss about them here (but something to experiment with nonetheless, who knows, it may turn out to be popular); however, second life or such things may attract traffic here because people do have a lot to discuss about this kind of virtual platforms, but then again, in India, second life may not be that popular, don't know

ii) Online gaming can easily demand a full dedicated top-level forum of its own (i.e., something to the scale of indiabroadband itself - gaming is one hell of a crowd-puller!!! is this ready to take that much? maybe it is, time will tell)

iii) Things like cloud computing, video conferencing can turn out to be dud

iv) Do not really know where mobile service providers and television service providers should be put (or if at all...)

I have put entertainment towards the end because people will anyway be attracted to it and thus will more likely glance through the forum list above it.

women's section without women != success

imo Admin must first go ahead with his advertising campaign [aimed at women ] ...Then there will be a lot more contributors and then we ll can have a very active section

How about a Linux sub-section ?

Many people have doubts while installing and using Linux na?

We had this "T-Shirt" idea,but dunno why this idea died out...
"www.indiabroadband.net" in the back of t-shirt & some chachy slogan (describing our forum) in the front of the t-shirt...would make a good idea....

May be we can give a t-shirt to "Member of the month" or anyone who had more than 1000 posts...

Im ready to give back my prize money,if this idea gets a green signal from admin...

You can also include a small code-fragment for people to include in their own blogs, web-sites, other web-sites linking to this site (e.g., NGOs in India not having their own forum): people can just pick that code and do a copy-paste on their web-pages etc. to promote India Broadband forums...in fact, many web-sites offer this kind of self-promotion/link-to-us facilities today.

Good idea. I think a T-shirt costs Rs. 450 plus charges for courier.

But in India(minus hillstations), its summer season which dominates for most part of the year!

Here in Chennai, we have only three seasons: Hot, Hotter & Hottest.....

I think the tshirt idea is good, i mean winters don't stay that long!, majority of the time the weather is pleasant where a tshirt can be worn, or maybe instead of a half t shirt we can have a full sleeves t shirt!

I really want this t-shirt idea to be implemented...

As shadowcon suggested , it would be good idea to introduce more linux sub sections , coz more and more people are warming up to the idea of using linux.

Plus my personal suggestion is that we can also have a career related forum over here. Since we already have quite a few experienced people in the IT field as our members(correct me if am wrong), it can also help.
