| Amor vincit omnia | One of the oddities i noticed in this forum is that some of the members have resorted to posting in SMS lingos. Some of the posts are bare illegible and we are left at the mercy of certain wild conclusions as to what the original poster had tried to convey. Now i am not pointing my finger at anyone, but i would suggest admin/mods to please take care of it. Many visit this portal as a direct result of google search queries. But seeing the solutions to various problems posted in SMS format is a sure turnoff for the majority of the users. Now we dont want users turning away from the portal seeing that, do we? I hope this criticism of me is not met with strict opposition, because what i stated was mere posting etiquette. Some samples collected from various threads Quote:

Rep Power: 9 | yes. english please. One basic point of communication is that it should be understood by the addressed persons. Unless it is understood, it remains only noise. Last edited by panchabhut; 01-28-09 at 10:13 PM. |

| Platinum Member | Ah! Mr. Cool_techie!! You are my Krishna Bhagwan. I have been saying this for ages. Lekin ees budhe ki suntaa kaun hai? People think that its cool to write in SMS lingo: the - da, anyone - ne1, ever - eva, never - neva, great - gr8, and the list goes on. People are deliberately spoiling their language not realising at all that - like it or not - English is the ruling diety of languages. One will never succeed in the corporate world with poor English. People often give me examples like Japanese, German, French, even Chinese. I beg to differ. To succeed in the world - and again like it or not - you have to succeed in America. You can have brilliant products but unless you can explain these products in plain English you cannot succeed. You can have brilliant ideas, but to succeed, these must be put forth in a language that everyone can fathom.

Rep Power: 7 | everyone should be notified of this, and yes it does ruin the forum especially for new members who come searching through search engines! Some people don't understand sms language and then its difficult for them to understand what has been written. Its not that hard to write an extra few letters to make the word proper English and understandable for everyone! |

| Platinum Member | Well, we can't have these as hard Forum rules. Forum etiquettes maybe. This kind of things do not happen on non-Indian forums - I have been a member of a few and rarely saw such language out there. |

| I also sometimes feel bad when I'm reading those kind of posts. Sometimes, it gets into my nerves. The rule that everyone should post in proper English must be applied atleast in our important sections (Technical discussions and all). That may reduce the thing to some good extent. |

Rep Power: 10 | Very good suggestion suggestion, Repo for you... Till this rule gets hard coded in to the rules (FAQs), we all can make a conscious effort not to use SMS lingos. |

Rep Power: 7 | Its not harsh, if something is explained to someone, why cant it be done! And its not something difficult to follow either! We cant make the forum look like a slang language place, for some people its difficult to understand some words or sms language used! Im sure you dont use that kind of language when working! @ J4K - good one! |

But, it actually won't matter much if it is used in Fun threads like 'Ban The Person Above You', 'Three Word Story', etc... Ofcourse people won't get any information from that kind of threads... | |

While we are at this, let us broaden on what people may not understnad depending upon their knowledge... -> Technical terms -> New english words ( I've been guilty of refering dictionary for many words from J4K's posts, not that its not good -> Plenty of Idioms, phrases etc . . . not to mention posting in hindi and other indian languages (for those who claim that our site is visited by international community etc) Do you people propose that all these be removed as well.... My understanding is that if people don't know something, they learn it in course of time, and if not they will ask for clarification... Just for clarification , not everyone posts in sms format because we think its cool or whatever ... its simply to reduce our effort/time (esp lazy guyz like me).
