Thread: Add-ons or Mods Suggestions for Indiabroadband.net

Default Add-ons or Mods Suggestions for Indiabroadband.net

This thread can be used to suggest new and really useful add-ons and mods for our forum. I just thought that this might be better than starting a new thread for each and every one new suggestion.

We can start a discussion, or share opinions about any new mod or add-on when anyone suggests one. If we find it useful, we can go on with it (of-course Admin's will be the final word). Then, the mods (just4kix, smoothvibes) or Admin can delete all the "Nice mod" and other similar posts (the users should understand that it is to reduce clutter and make things more neat), keeping only those posts in which new add-ons or mods have been suggested and approved. I mean that only those suggestions need to be left which have been useful. (Or, we may want to consider keeping the other suggestions also for the sake of preventing users suggesting the same thing again and again).

If you think that this idea is not good, we can of-course carry on the usual way of starting new threads. But, we can have at-least the updates of new suggestions here. As I have said, the comments here can be deleted (even the comments on this thread).

It doesn't mean that comments are not valued. Comments are the things which will decide further procedures.

So, let me use this chance to link to the first suggestion here. It was first suggested by Rameshjeee:

    1) Suggestion to reduce the redundant threads (We can have discussions about the add-on in that thread).

    Request:

Please number the suggestion so that users can comment upon a number of suggestions together without any confusion. Also, making the text bold and setting its size to '3' can really help in highlighting your new suggestion.

    Here's the second suggestion.

2)Helpful Answers - Post Rating System (plus many sub-features)

    A short description :

Every day your users contribute hundreds if not thousands of posts making it hard for new members and guests to separate out the best answers from those that are less helpful. The Helpful Answers System offers your members a quick way (AJAX) to rate individual posts as either helpful or not allowing future visitors to understand the benefits of each post.

Further details can be found on the link (Click on the title to follow the link).

    Thanks Madz.

By the way (BTW), what do you think about the second one?

I just thought that we needed that.

    My opinion:

That can really help out new users (and even Senior members) find the best answer, advice or whatever. Thus, it will be of great help in our main sections (Broadband, Computers, etc).

Yes, that will add some credibility to the replies on forum... People will come up with lot better solutions after some more research... I think Yahoo answers has that feature... where best answer is picked by the no. of votes each answer gets!

    Offtopic:

I don't think it is determined so.
If I am right, the best answer is actually determined by the vote of the person who asked the question.

Wonderful Idea Dhanno, I even didn't know about the Ramesh's thread, thanks for highlighting it too. Though, its against spamming policy, but to make our forum more friendly this is very good.

And now, as the need has come, let me introduce the third one.

    3) Awards System

Please refer to this thread to see why we need this system now. And, please refer to the add-on link I have provided to know more about it.

Nice thread Dhaneshv, and Rameshjee's ideas good too, it will definatly stop duplicate threads being created and stop any confusion for new members.

    4) Prevent bumping old Threads

This add-on will help us to prevent spamming/bumping/digging of old threads. It can close old/dead threads automatically and may be of great use to us, preventing many problems.
I think that the Admin/mods will be able to bump old threads, and thus, if a need arises, we can bring back an old thread with the help of Admin/mods.

P.S: Please forgive me if bumping this thread caused any inconveniences.

    @dhaneshv

1.I liked the way Yahoo Answers restrict the replies to just three days.

    2. Some other forums, as suggested by you , close the thread, and , ( if you access it, by Google search or other wise, )
advise you to open a new thread.

    As @moderator suggested,
only the old threads , for which no solution has been posted, may be kept open.
or start a new thread with link to the OLD thread, if it is locked.
    P.S:
Unable to add Rep++ to you for some other post/s of yours. will try later. !

In Yahoo Answers, that is only the default setting. Many have their questions open for more than 1 month in some cases. And we cannot face a "No Best Answer" stage here, as in Yahoo Answers. And Yahoo Answers is not 'much' useful when problems melt down to smaller levels.

Your second point was exactly what that needs to be done.

That occurs for posts that had come into a Tiebreaker stage. In that stage, the answer for which it is voted first, is chosen as the best answer. Your answers that might have gone into 'Tiebreaking' might have been voted out just now. Hope I was clear.

I cant remember what message of email comes when new members register, but what we can do is give links to threads for help!

For example we can have links to forum Forum Etiquette, Signature Rules, Warez/Piracy Rules, Introductions and something for General information on how to post and when what to look out for posts eg reputations!

There is way to do that also. Many check their mail just for registering in sites, and things like that. There are many who would just not mind it. I think I can find an add-on/mod for our forum that can do somewhat similar, or a little better.

P.S: When am I going to get all the repoes.

I have got it for you:

    5) Cyb - Advanced Forum Rules

This not only serves the purpose you talked about. This will give a separate page for our forum rules, and we can set in it that, new members 'have' to go through the rules/certain pages before starting to browse our forums.

    Main Features:
-Rules shown on separate page (no file uploads required)
-Several sets of rules can be created and applied to individual forums
-Choose between BB codes and HTML in rules
-Options to force users to accept Forum Rules before can view forums or threads, post replies, PMs, or e-mails...
-Option to replace registration rules with this product ones
-Option to reset user acceptance status when infraction is received

What about a shoutbox or a chat box? That would cut down a lot of "hi"/"hello"/"how are you" spam in the threads.

Not a bad idea. But it will affect our post counts ...

    ---------------------------------

Is it possible to embed youtube videos in posts just like we embed pics from external sources? I dont think it is possible without the HTML code being turned on ... but it would have been nice if it was possible to embed youtube videos...

Yes, it would be good, as we can just post tutorials in the form of video (existing/self made).

I think it is withheld due to bandwidth concerns.

Bandwidth wont be a concern. I am not talking about attaching videos to IBF. Just embeding videos uploaded on other sites like youtube. You must have seen youtube videos embeded on many sites/blogs.

Does it mean that we can see the thumbnail of the video.

    1) Sorry for replying so late.
    Just found your unreplied question.

    2) Embedding doesn't result in increased server load.
