| I would like to divert all your attention, including Admin's, just4kix's and smoothvibes'. We had had a thread about suggestions and discussions about our old Writing Contest, which didn't bring spam here. The only problem it facd was lack of enthusiasm. Please go through the thread, and give your reviews and suggestions, and we already have had a lot of ideas there. Writing Contest Not Yielding Fruits - Problems And Suggestions And, please note that I was not much into everyone in IBB at that time, and therefore please forgive me for some foolish words or phrases I have said there. | I have no problem going in with the Article writing content, but I would like to make two amendments to it: 1) "Do not disclose the entries for the contest" I have seen that, if two guys are competing against each other in the contest, they normally don't reply in each other's article/thread, just because of the fear that they will loose the lead, so if we won't disclose the name of the threads (entries for contest) no one will come to know about it. I know that most of you might not agree on this, but this is a fact, even it is not what's the harm in not disclosing the entries. We just need to prepare an article and send that link to Admin/mod as a request to include that into the contest. Later on, Admin / Mod can disclose all the entries with Results. 2) "There shouldn't be only one prize" This is my second suggestion. This time, let's not have only one winner. We can have 3 or 5 winners depending upon whatever criteria we follow to decide the winner, be it no. of post, no. of views or replies etc. Looking forward to hear you friends. |

| Anyway, we still have to think about the practicality of this. Anyone so curious to not post in opponent's thread can easily get to look at all new threads and can identify which of thm might have been put up for the contest. |

| We can try holding more than one contest at the same time. As we focus on various topics and diversified talent are involved. The price money can vary according to value added to the site. If one contest is more useful, then that should secure a higher prize money. Like good articles are surely to be an asset, but Google makes it irrelevant and a lot of feeds and blog subscription are also there. I am not undermining the idea. If there is an article writing contest, members should choose the topic they want to know about (under the supervision of Moderators & Admin ). Let us choose an initial pool of topics and start with them. The articles should be evenly distributed throughout the period of contest. We can add more topics to the pool as and when the trend changes. If the pool don't dry up at the end of the contest, we can try using them for later contests. During the contest, authors can suggest topics for moderator approval. Any topic selected and secures a certain amount of traffic can be rewarded. I think we can also introduce referral scheme (please, it is only a suggestion) as I would have been happy if someone told me about this forum earlier. Asking questions is surely a skill and it makes the thread more useful. So non authors should be given a chance to participate in posting contest. Otherwise we end up with a collection of articles which can be easily replaced by a Google search. When someone search for a particular article and end up finding our article, the title should be attractive enough for him to choose. We can contribute to SEO and will be useful for our own blog. We can suggest a title for an article if we feel it is more appealing. For Eg. I used " Copy text from images. New! ", " Torrents, seeding & Trackers " I believe all of them are keywords and appealing. If we won't diversify and spread the responsibility, we will be asking too much from our authors and will be underestimating other resources we have. To sum up. 1. Suggest good topics. 2. Submit useful articles/Start useful threads. 3. Ask questions and post reasonable doubts. 4. Choose the title. 5. New members referral. Hope it will be of some use. Sorry, I didn't read earlier posts, if any idea is recurring, please forgive. Last edited by meetdilip; 04-16-09 at 12:07 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Rep Power: 10 | How about a composite points system Each New post with at least 5 words: 1 point Each Repo point received : 5 points Each new Thread started that receives at least 2 replies : 5 points Restrictions of earlier contest continues. Min. period of Contest : 3 months Winners decided by total points earned |

I am also wanting to have a modified and well planned highest poster like contest. The reasons i am not in favour of writing contest are many and i wont like to mention most of them here. Who will judge the quality of articles!!? other contestants? - Doesnt makes any sense. Number of views/replies? - Not practical. Reputations on the article? - Dont mind but then this contest will turn in favour of daily users(friends on the forum) and Repo exchangers. (Plz dont take me otherwise here). IMHO - only Admin and Just4kix should judge the quality of articles. No one else. IMO - we can have another round of highest poster contest. I know this contest faced many problems (spamming, huge amount of post reporting, raising questions on the forums rules etc) BUT - all these problems were faced in the early days of the contest. As the contest kept going ... most things were clear to most people and such problems were reduced to negligible amount. Moreover, it was the very first trial of the highest poster contest. All the contestants and mods/admin slowly got to understand the problems which kept on arising during the contest and most were solved. There were hardly any issues towards the end(last 10 days) of the contest. The highest poster contest used to keep the technical sections of the forum busy and interesting(which is the basic purpose of the forum). The amount of activity in the technical sections have reduced noticabley after the end of the contest. Of course - we can have some modifications and new and strict rules. This contest gives equal opportunity to old as well as new members. Also, the fact that people who are not very good authors but can obviously contribute to various discussions and technical sections(specially troubleshooting) of the forum are not ruled out if we have the highest poster contest. Anyways, these are only my opinions. BTW, Rameshjee - i would like to know about the IPL contest idea you were suggesting to admin. Sounds interesting.
