Only technical threads should be awarded reputations
Any thread that improves/contributes unique content to the forum should be awarded reputations
Any thread which the user is impressed with should be awarded reputations
Non-technical threads can also be awarded reputations
@aashaka
It's the matter of reputation!!!
To tujhe rep nahi chahiye kya :tt2:
I always try to rep jokes which I find funny and which I have not read before either.
But it should be given to any active member who doesn't receive it often. I guess this is the main idea of rupu !4) We all should occasionlly award Repos to techies like essbebe, superprash etc even if we dont recieve any direct help from them.![]()

@rupu, You are taking something personally.
Do you remember that I gave you a repo very early in your membership:
- You pointed a user to a userful post that would possible help him solve his issue
- I have you a repo on this post
- You asked me why?
- And I said, "Any post that helps a user, directly or indirectly" deserved a repo. You may not have added your own content, but directed a user to a solution; hence you deserved a repo"
(just checked from Moderator Control Panel - that was your second repo).
So mate, you do deserve repo's.

Here are my last 25 reputations and what I think of them ...
repos.PNG
Look I don't want to sound rude...but I have seen you also asking for reps...once in a while. So I can't understand, on one hand you ask people for reps and on the other hand you say some of the reps you got...you did not deserve???
Sorry. I joined late.
Rep Objective
1. Rank a person
2. Rank an answer
3. Thank a person
If we decide to select one or more from above, we can redefine the rep system.
Our rep system is a bit strange. We cannot rep a person who is continuously helping you. This forum is for help during technical problems. Our repo exchange fest might have undermined point 1.
We pay for the internet we use and will use it for personal benefit (technical problems or sociate). The forum survives only till members happen to stay here and technical forums alone cannot meet this requirement. Only a few are regulars and contribute in technical discussions. It doesn't matter who receive s the rep as long as user gets benefited. The only thing we can do is help the user find the best answer.

Amal, I dont think j4k asks for Repos in any casual post or for achieving milestones. The kind of articles(100% original) he contributes to the forum deserve more repo than he currently recieves. And asking for Repos on such articles is very much justified.
As i already said, even if we Repo someone for the sake of returning favour - we should do it by giving Repo on some good post/thread by that member and not on any causal post. The previous post by j4k also suggests this.![]()
OK. Let me clarify.
(@all, please read in neutral tone. I am saying this in a very gentle tone)
Yes. I did ask for repo's sometimes. But only in a post where I spent considerable time in research, gathered all my own knowledge, spent painful efforts in creating a guide, etc. I do not consider this as bad. But I also meant that as a joking afterthought like "(joking mood and with a smile) hey guys, please do remember to acknowledge me".
In the picture above, I have put my honest thoughts on what I thought about all the repo's given. Yes. I am extremely grateful for all the points but I am humbly saying, without much ado or pride or modesty: I deserved points here / I did not deserve here.
So don't worry, be happy.![]()
Enough of this Reputation discussion I think. At least our Reputation System is better than lot of other forums. For ex:
These are my Repo stats on a torrent forum where I hardly have about 500 posts and have started about 15-20 threads only(shared something via torrent):
aa.jpg
aaa.jpg
And this is one of least if compared to the Big Guns of that forum.  Repo settings in most forums are very poor. One Repo gives someone thousands of points ..
Anyway, my advise would be that users should "demand" repos. They can just "remind" others that there is the repoing thing in our forum.
Many had asked me to remind them later to give me repo for some post. But, I didn't remind many because my mind didn't allow me to, and I am only happy for that.![]()
(But there were instances (most probably 1 or 2, not more than that) when I did remind some, but that was just when I was in a pranky or teasing mood).
And, my vote will go to the option which means:
Repos can be given to any useful post, with two conditions:
1) Tech threads should have genuine content, while humorous posts need not be the poster's own content.
2) Copy-pasted articles (Jokes and similar threads are exceptions) without source should be given negative repo (atleast say that you had copied it).
We are leaving out the -ve repo and that is why I pointed that option also.
And rupu is really right. The thread starter may feel really bad when something he/she posted goes unnoticed. When a user does so much hard work, thinking and writing about something and going researching about something he is going to post, and finally everything goes into nothing, there is something that will occur in their mind.
Probably this was a reason why I slowed down my thread startng process drastically. As many (old members) might have noticed, I used to post some good amount of threads at a time (all genuine). But, I was discouraged from continuing.
