Exclamation Alert: Reducing Number of Active Users!

The Number of Active members in the Forum was about 5000 till some days(about a month) ago. I have been noticing that that the number of active users in decreasing day by day although the total number of members is increasing.

    Current Active Members: 4,133

I have noticed a strange problem while logging in to the forum. Same problem is with the women's forum also.

Most regular members dont logout often - so dont notice this.

The forum is popular by the name of indiabroadband.net

Many people browse sites without the www in the url.

Now ... When trying to log into "indiabroadband.net" ... the login doesnt works. the same page(logged out) is shown even when a user tries to log in. This can be very confusing and can drive away some new or less active users.

The login works fine when logging in to "www.indiabroadband.net".

This can be a reason of the reducing number of Active members.

Admin ... Plz solve the issue. Time to put your Webmaster Hat on

I have and am facing this issue since long. even when logging in from "www.indiabroadband.net"
even after logging in the log-in page is again displayed. but then I click on "today's post" and the page changes to logged in status.

Yes ... clicking on any link does it. when we click on any link - the url contains "www". Actually when we try to login to http://indiabroadband.net ... The login work actually happens but still shows the logged out page. After clicking any link of the forum ... the logged in page is shown.

It is the way the cookie is stored in your computer. The cookies is always stored with the "www" prefix.

When logging in without prefixing 'www', it cannot find the cookie and hence asks to login again.

All internal links are to the website with the 'www' prefix. Hence when you click, 'today's posts', the cookie is used and you are taken to the website with "logged in" status.

This was explained by Admin some time ago.

Bottomline: Always login to URL with the "www" prefix. You will never have this problem.

Ya. That we can understand. But, it can be confusing for new members. http://indiabroadband.net/ can be redirected to http://www.indiabroadband.net/ to solve the issue. Whenever someone tries to open http://indiabroadband.net/ it should be redirected to http://www.indiabroadband.net .

    @j4k

What do you think is the reason behind reducing number of Active Users!?

That might be some problem with the cookie settings of your browser. Make sure cookies are enabled.

It may not be a problem at all. Just a bug or the way the VB software calculates active members.

The reason you see reducing number of active members is that I have made a few changes to the forum and one of them is that guest visitors can now view unlimited number of pages without having to register so the number of new members that register every day has come down by more then 60% and that takes away a chunk out of the active members numbers..

I just thought that its not a very good idea to make some one register just to view the threads as those people who register that way dont ever participate in any of the discussions and there is no use them being a member here as they would never be active... So now if anyone rgisters here it will be out of their own will and not a compulsion...

What do you guys say shall we keep it like this or change it back to what it was like before?

Thats a good idea Admin. I was thinking the same from very long time but didnt care to tell it as everybody here was thinking that more number of registering is good for the forum.

Now allowing them to see it will help a lot in saving the diskspace of their usernames also. Now if they register they will post something here and thats really good for the forum. You can even say that if a member doesnot login for 3 or 6 months then his ID will be deleted. Ok lets think about this later.

For now what you have done is a very good move.

no not like that, i said that only for registering and going people not for regular members. we can see a lot of people who post just 1 or two posts and disappear for them that rule is. Not for regular posters.

Ya its difficult to differentiate between regular & non regular, will think of some other way
