Thread: Jokes, Yard and Offtopic (Part 2)

In spite of closing a lot of threads in Yard, the number of offtopic threads have not reduced.

The action has simply shifted from "Yard" to "Introductions" in various items such as "Good Morning", "Good Evening", "Congratulations", etc.

It is nice to say GM, GN, etc. but now these threads are looking more like a chat room. One person, comes and says "GM" and 20 others echo the same thing.

Come on guys, we can do better than this. We are not a chat room. This is an emotional appeal.

We can do better only if we have a chatbox / shoutbox.

I do not understand.

For general chatting, there is a 'Chat' thread. For shotbox, we have "Suggestions and Complaints".

shoutbox aka chatbox does not increase post count and is in one the main page of the forum.

also shoutbox is just like your IM in operation and it has nothing to do with "Suggestions and Complaints"

Alright. We can make a suggestion to Admin.

But I am not talking about increasing or decreasing post count. I am appealing the users to become active in the mainstream. For instance, there are nearly 200 new posts in DSL and BB sections.

Having a chatbox/shoutbox will simply take the action somewhere else.

You can put a sticky in shoutbox saying , its for strictly off-topic discussions.

Thats why even I worry.A Chatbox / Shoutbox if implemented, might drive away the main focus of the forum. We may end with members just shouting in the shoutbox & not in the forum.

I seriously don't understand why the staff can't trust the regular member's intelligence.

But I am back to my original argument - we are a forum and not a chat room.

well then solution is simple. You just have to lock the Off-topic discussions sub-forum. That should solve the problem.

Yeah...lock everything apart from the tech forums...is a possible solution. I've seen some forums do it, but then they died out very quickly as people drove away from those forums.

I saw the off topic section & news discussion section few thread is very good where member can discuss lot of issue which is not applicable in other section and all of them is not chat thread.
So I don't want to lock that section.

I am not going to lock any section. I made it very clear in the first post that this is an appeal.

I have always said - you all can spam but use some moderation.

This is not addressed to npu or 18lama or anyone in particular - this is an appeal to everyone.

could we have a live thread for chit chatting in yard ?

you didn't get my point. By live thread I mean the thread would update automatically with every new post, we don't need to refresh it all the time. And we can reply and see our posts in real time . I saw it on one of the forums, will give you the link as soon as I log in from PC.

ok people don't worry about this chatbox idea, will surely talk about it and will comeup with something good for everyone

Second: as just4kix said so we are not deleting yard threads

Third: We need your support to keep this forum spam free, just smiley posts and one word posts not serving any purpose, i request you to avoid posting that.

lets take care of our own actions

I am doing that from now but what about that invisible thing? No action till now.

I have surely reduced spamming atleast 10%, which I think is not a bad start. I am now not post "only smiley" or "one work" reply.

I am always against the spamming. Every one can contribute in threads on topics they like like Music, Lifestyle , Reviews of products.
I am the only one to get infracted for it I think.
