Thread: Radio channel for broadband troubleshooting

Its a long shot still I would like to share what Ive been cooking up for the last few days... I have kind of worked out the costs and every thing and its all set to go but we would need some solid financial back up may be some VC would pick us up and throw in some money for this new project...

Here is what Ive been thinking of..

I would like to start up a radio station which would broadcast via the internet only so it would be accessible all over the world.. now you would think why would we need a radio station?? well its just a though and here is what we would do with it...

We would have a massive media server some where in states or Germany and thats where it would all run from with the broadcasting end at my place.

The purpose of this station would be mostly helping people out with queries which people would call in from across the world using a call button placed on the forum...

Initially there will be timings for the radio say like 3-4 hours every day at a fixed time and we would have the most funniest threads being read out by our RJ (dont know who that would be but whoever it will be will become famous across the globe pretty soon) and so on... Any one could listen to the radio on the move as well using their mobile phone with just a gprs connection and even call in using their mobile and talk to the RJ and so on... A lot of fun and a little help with technical know how for every one

Now the only hurdle is that this project would need a substantial amount of money thrown in although this project will pay for itself after some time as we would get lots of advertisers as well as time goes by.

Please dont shy away from saying its a stupid idea... or if you think its a good idea please say it so I know I am not being a shekh chilli


PS: this project if finalised wont start untill mid next year.

I like this idea.

What about starting off with a weekly podcasts and than converting slowly into a full fledged station?

In fact you can ask our techie members to contribute in this regard. People now have enough bandwidth available where they can download 30-40mb MP3 files and listen too it and give reviews on the site.

I would also love if all our techies from Chennai meet up and give us a podcast of their meeting.

Hmmm well How would an Indian RJ sort out international level querries? Like letsay Someone called from India about bsnl or airtel stuff we know what are the technical stuffs but how would an Indian guy know what are the technical stuffs with sprint,verizon,capri,bigpond,grapevine,foxlink or hanaru telecom so on and so forth....

So how many RJs would they have? They would have 2-3 from certain places but its not possible to get one RJ from each nation.... and knowing about all ISPs is also not possible for one RJ or the people helping him

It does not matter what isp you are with ... technology is the same all over the world with a very few exceptions... India on the other hand is much more advanced in that respect due to the fact that countries like USA and western European countries had their infrastructure built up about 20 years ago and are stuck with primitive technologies and India is embrasing the new technologies and that too with much lower cost as compared to what those countries paid 20-25 years ago...

As you may already know that most of the ISP support call centers ar also in India for these countries

More over it wont just be broadband support we would also do stuff like computer hardware and softwares and what not... Its all uniform across the world.

By the time our radio goes live there wont be many people with limited bandwidth connections. and the bandwidth this radio is going to use wont be much as the quality doesn't have to be great..

Not an IPO I am just talking to a few of my industrialist friends if they like the idea... if any of them is ready to foot the bill for this we can give them free advertising... But the problem is none of them has any businesses related to the theme of our site.

but that may need some legal stuffs to be done, alongwith with some experienced guys from this sectors..

btw i also had thought of making a radio station on the internet, but then i thought it wont be profitable, as already more than 3 big hindi radio stations working but not so popular though, but thats just my idea...
