Thread: Contest suggestions

Can we have a weekly contest. That means new comers who come in between can also participate. I agree with your idea of having 3 prizes.

Here is how I propose it to be:

Anyone who wantes to participate will create a new id and thats the id he/she will use to the contest and for every contest there has to be a new id but after the contest once prize winners are declared they can ask for the new id's posts to be merged under their main/old id.

I believe this would be a good set up for a monthly option:

1st : 5000
2nd : 4000
3rd : 3000

Provided Aaron is ok with the money being spent.

What say?

Creating a new ID is good idea. That way we can keep track of articles. Is just create a thread or post article per thread ?

article means an informative thread. Its not a post contest.

Before all this starts, we need new Mods. I feel, we should have section mods in addition to "god" moderators. Would make life a lot easier.

The only problem with the new ID system is, it create a lot of confusion as no one would no who is who.

A better method would be to have a daily winner. i.e. If i am the top thread started of the day, i get some points, same happens every day, hence there will be much more activity than doing on a monthly basis. The winner is the one with maximum points at the end of the month. Counting top thread starter of the day would be easy and would not require need for new Ids. Many forums have that at the btm of the page.

The top thread starter of the day idea is good if I would have been a good coder... It would take me atleast a 100 years to come up with a script which would make it all automatic... even thinking about it makes me sweat
Keeping a track manually would be a mammoth task and would need to be done every day...

The highest thread starter mod is easy to install but some one would have to be online at midnight every day to check the scores displayed as that mods doesnt have a way to find out who was the highest thread starter on a previous date.

Please only suggest stuff that has minimal human intervention and it would be great if there is something that is 100% automated so there wont be anyone complaining about partiality and stuff.

I was under the impression that it could have been done automatically. But hey, what if Aaron can do it ? Where is he btw ?

Aaron is probably sitting at some beach sipping cocktails he wont be back until second week of Jan ... on holiday.

Aaron has got a developer but I dont know if he does php or not... will find out.

this is huge amount of money for me(as i am a kid)

and already there is much amount spent on the bills.

but if Aaron is ok then sure.

I still feel that weekly contest is better. We will have more winners. Everybody happy

Depends on Aaron if he can shell out more. Actually even if the prizes are smaller for weekly, like Rs 2000, 1500 and 1000, i feel it would be better as we will have more winners

What do you guys say? And once this gains momentum we can have one mega month long contest may be in feb or march with prizes in the range of 50k-30k-20k-10k-5k and repeat it every few months.

Please do not take my word as final I dont make decisions and can only suggest like you guys do

What do you guys say? and how many people are actually up for the weekly contests?

The new threads can be news items from technology related stuff to telecom news or they could be turorials.. and so on.

I have a feeling that this is going to get ne response atall and only 3-4 people will actually participate... who all are interested?

I am also in favour of weekly contest as payout will be much faster - maybe less amounts but there will be chance to more people.

Do we have to ?? Is there no other way ?? Y cant the system just count threads on its own and just refresh the count every day ? I don't think there is a need for new Ids, yes it would a lot easier to manage. But then comes the problem of spam or just copy pasted articles, they would have to be cleared off the same day else the system may count it, so there is a need for more mods.

Btw, i am in for the weekly contest, can't wait to see the response thus time, last time during the highest post contest, the forum was really active and threads used to get replies pretty quickly


Also, how will the system differentiate between a query thread or an article ?? I can always start stupid threads like computer is too slow what to do and stuff like that, made purely to increase thread count. (Banning for such spam will be a good solution though )

Good point. The threads which provide solution should be entertained. One idea about the query threads is that the person should write atleast 75 words for explaining his issue. This way he'll create content even if it's a question. However, it will increase the manual work load.

yep hence there is a need for tons (well at least 5) mods. Also, who ever breaks the rules gets disqualified .

but i suggest the 50k one to be held every 6 months or 1 year only.

besides has the server been shifted from India to USA back???

no 6 months or 1 year will give the site some budget.

but if win i will buy a core i7.

How will the prizes reach to users.through credit/debit cards or anything else?
