Thread: Contest suggestions

I think server and other problems have more or less settled down now so there cant be a better time to start a new contest.

I do not have any great ideas myself so I would welcome any suggestions you may have for a new contest.

Lets start with some simple things which we all do knowingly or unknowingly : Photography.

Last time we had contest on number of topics/posts, hence this time we need something different which is not related to IBF or BB topics.

This time lets have BEST PIC contest. what you say guys? come up with some real cool idea.

Is it not better to have a contest which is more related to technology and broadband because that's what the forum is about

Maybe something like most number of threads created (excluding the general off topic section) which are of at least 200 words or something.

A photography contest would be more suited for a photography related forum. There are many in that niche and a lot of them have regular contests so lets leave the clicking business for them and stick to technology and other main focus areas on the forum itself.

i think IBF needs an icon, hence we can have an icon design contest, we can also have a tag line contest ?

Or lets keep it simple, best article contest

Let us do something with the useful no of posts.

Along with the first prize, there should be consolation prizes so that all regulars can benefit. It will make other users become regular.

No issues. But lets have something not related to forum. Like no of posts or anything like that. lets be creative.

I digged one of the ideas I suggested. Take your time to go through it.

That thread has some very good idea but I dont have an idea of how to implement those. If we do have a contest every week for different sub forums how are we going to keep track of what is going on.

he he ...its not like that. If i love the competition i will be a part of it , if not , then i wont. same is applicable for all.
My point was , on IBF we always help each other. so why not get creative and start any kind of competition which is not a part of IBF. Something different.

I am open to all suggestions. let other members also put in their creative thoughts so that admin and finalize the competition plan and its rule.

I would suggest a competetion of creating tutorials related to computers, modems, routers etc or even software related stuff.

You could create an articles directory and install some php articles script and that way every one will have their own login so there will be no need to keep a record of anything which would minimise the efforts required to keep the contest running.
You can make it a weekly thing something like tutorial of the week contest where every one will submit their tutorials and end of the following week who ever gets the most votes would win... or may be just let Just4kix decide who wins or you could do it yourself with consultation from senior members every week.

Another was we could do this is that you could pay everyone to write for the blog indiabroadband.net/blog and let every one post there ... make a panel of 5 people and let them have the power of refusing payment if the article is too crappy or does not meet requirements that way quality would be under control as well.
You could pay something like Rs100 for every blog post may be.. I dont know whatever you think is right. Rs100 = 2.5$CD

This 15 post limit for posting url's is very annoying.

You just have to open a thread where the members will submit the links to their newly created topics. It should be upto you to reject or accept. As we don't want copy and paste articles to be eligible for the contest. Being a webmaster, you may easily find out which one is copied... May just increase a bit of the overhead... but worth to give a try...

It's just one of the suggestions... Others are invited to pitch in with their suggestions or format for the contest...

I saw your post after posting the previous one...lol... nice to see you back... I missed your wits... Indeed it's annoying... Finally, you got the smell of your own socks...

Being end of the year, users/members can nominate best post/ best thread/member with max posts etc.
( restrict to Broadband forums only )

2. Last time, member can also contribute max articles within say one/or two hours. email was sent to members ( on any topic or fixed topic)
If accepted,
double payment was promised. and of course paid.

3. As @admin you read most posts everday, you can pick Post of the Day/Post of the week/Post of the month
( for content/presentation/solution/new info etc ) and name the member/s.
Payment/s at end of month.

4. In last contest, number of new members registered and took part in the competition, and disappeared thereafter, and had no sustained interest in the forum.
(List available with me).
Restrict to members, having minimum
say 100 posts . or been a member for three months AND posts minimum 50.

Members with REP points above 400/500 ineligible to take part in the open competition.
Separate competition or award or reward ( Air trip to GOA/ Ladakh in Summer ?!) for them later.

What parminder ji has suggested is good and i am for it, just that you will need help (as he has said), its time you start picking mods. Rs 100 is a good amount, make some kind of slabs and let the people rate the articles too. Let the articles be posted in the forum itself which should have a sub category as reviews/guides etc, the writer's name should be mentioned and for every 1500 views it gets, the writer gets Rs100. This will keep some constant flow of content and many people will become regulars just for the $ factor. Ads shall be placed on the page of the review/guide even for members(many times those ads are really helpful !).
Also, the writers will also backlink the page as they want more views (so they make more $), will help forum overall.

Rajan Admin is Canadian he wouldn't understand the 'jee' you are mentioning! LOL

I think the seperate articles directory comes with a set of drawbacks and I had a word with Aaron who agrees that its not the best thing to to...

The only other thing that comes to my mind is that we could have a monthly highest thread starter of the month contest with a very strict quality control... Have the stats set to 30 days and just check on the 30th or 31st of every month and see who is the highest thread starter and give away the prize money.

New threads could be anything like daily news but in your own words with good titles.. tutorials and reviews etc.

My suggestion is to give away Rs10k every month and make it 3 prizes 1st 2nd and 3rd... 5000 for 1st highest thread starter then 3000rs for second highest and 2000 for third highest.

This could be a monthly ongoing thing and we could have some other contests as well besides this one which would keep bringing all the latest news to this places besides active participation.

That would be fine but then again he will need loads of mods for assistance as many people will just copy paste news from other forums over here, we would need a detailed set of rules for it to work well.

Yes no doubt there will be people who would just copy paste stuff but there is a solution for this Including a line in the rules : "Any participant found posting copied content will be disqualified from the contest" And once disqualified they cannot use the same id to participate in the contest and if they do come back with a new id they will have to start from ZERO.

Yes this forum would need mods and I would recomend reviving old mods before adding new ones if need be. Aaron had asked me to look after the forum for him untill he gets the hang of things here.

Highest thread starter contest is actually a good idea... even I suggested it long time back when you mentioned somewhere that "number of threads" matter more than "number of posts" for the SEO of the forum.

OK Ive been given the task to conduct this contest and I would go with the number of threads idea.

Do you guys want it to be a monthly thing or a weekly thing? Weekly thing would mean lesser time frame and every week there could be a different winner monthly would mean you would have to devote a lot of time for a longer period to be the winner but then the prize money would be biger too.

What do you guys say and should be have just one prize per contest or first second and third or what?

I personally think there should be 3 prizes... 1st 2nd and 3rd every time. A monthly contest would be better as there would be less hassel in maintianing records and stuff.

Please voice your opinions.
