@ essbebe, ya ping times to this site are really good, I would say as much better as Google which is one of the site having lowest ping.

some comments about servers in India and abroad were made here.
The server equipment in India probably imported from U.S and may be similar !

Just Now: Airtel upto 2 Mbps ( will DNS make a difference/ Now on Google and Open DNS) Edited.

@ essbebe, didn't get what exactly you say but in my opinion, Indian web hosting providers are good (unless they have no downtime issues ) as no any server in US 'll give as low as 50ms ping time from India.

    @anuj
You must specify parameters for comparison.
    "Downtime" is not defined.
Is it the time web site takes ( say 4 seconds) to download a website page or picture BMP, JPG etc ?
or the full website page ?
There is frequent disruption in connection ?
    or compare ping time ?
    2.
Server based in India vs Server Based in U.S

Another Indian forum with same V bulletin is hosted from a U.S.server. ( shows time taken to download the page with more links)
The contents of the WEb site. How many other external links are accessed ? Pictures/flash/videos etc. ( total size 100 or 1 MB ?)

The speed of your connection .
    The browser you use .
The time of testing ( peak hours or off peak hours).
    The ISP etc.
    [TEST]
When you test speed at speedtest.net from
different servers, you see wide difference
in the D/L speed and ping time.

Dedicated server or sharing with other users.

Asking @admin to spend more money, without real data is unfair, because "I FEEL downtime is bad."!

I felt some delay when posting replies.
Probably some check is made, before loading the data. Sometimes You get message "sent for moderation" if too may links are listed, to cross check.

Comparison is in front of you. Thats the ping associated with the numeric IP of this site. Around 85 ms means look up time is just 85 milliseconds. If the site would have been on any server in US, that ping might be anything around 150 to 4000 ms depending upon several other conditions like ISP, DNS, load on routing servers etc but not much less than that & never as much low as we get with Indian web hosting provider.

So its saving few of milliseconds of our life.. milliseconds makes it to minute & so on. Remember it has nothing to do with other content like ads, images unless they are placed on this indiabroadband.net URL.

Sometime downtime couldn't be there as you saying. I am not a frequent visitor so didn't experience it but if its getting heavier, then its worthwhile to move to US hosting provider irrespective of high ping times servers there will give.

    @admin
You can move to US Hosting. No issues.

    [quote]
downtime The time that a SERVER is not operating: this is usually due to a hardware error or routine maintenance. It is an important factor in judging an INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER's performance.[quote]

    conclusion.
servers in U.S better/best if Ping time is 5/6 times more. and you will load web pages fast ! there won't be any "downtime"

now we can have better features. We all can upload attachments, have avatars, visitor messages and so much more with very little compromise on load times. Good na ?

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...tml#post262882 (Make a wish)

The hosting company in India we were at previously was too scary ... their staff put their "egos" ahead of their business interests...

They messed up on something and I created a ticket.... it was something urgent and the guy replied it is farwarded to the billing department and once billing department approves it they will sort out the issue... Billing only works office hours so it would have been a long wait... So I sent another message using some strong words .... and instead of appologising for the goofup this guy lashes at me for the my choice of words... Typical Indian attitude. Indian company... Indian people.... and obviously the same lousy Indian attitude.... and no sense of customer support/satisfaction.

Another reason was that they had too many restrictions in place.... sending about 10k e-mails took me about 2 hours.... Now it takes less then one min...

I/O wait times were killing the rankings...

I could have created a ticket about all these things but after that stupid egoistic reply we just gave up the idea of hosting in India.

I still have two reseller accounts with them and if they dont behave themselves thats going to move out as well.

The moral of the story is that they screwed up and I told them off and they couldnt tolerate the fact that I told them off for it.... instead of appologising about the issue they guy reverts back to me and tells me off for the words I had used....

Certainly not the way I do business.... its an India company with Indian values... no sense of customer support.... just wanna hook some customers and sit back and relax.

Current data centre replies to the tickets in like 30 seconds and yes they use "thanks" and "please" and it does go a long way does it not?

I am certainly glad that we have moved to a better server. I was, kind of, disappointed to see that we do not have avatars, attachments, smileys, and other cool stuff.
