Thread: Can't Upload my avatar

This is the screen i see when i go to cpanel> Edit avatar

how do i upload my avatar ?

Avatars are disabled for all those have less then 1000 posts. The reason is that we need to bring down the bandwidth usage as the monthly bill is going to be extremely high as the site is now hosted at an Indian data centre.

If there is anyone with 1000+ posts and still cannot use avatars please let me know so I can set it up for you.

Why not enable the option of uploading avatar remotely ?

I dont make those decisions any more... You gonna have to ask Aaron for that.

when i didn't cross 1000 posts, i still had an avatar visible.
How?i just told Aaron about this problem.he fixed that time.that time i had around 800 posts.

Well i think this rule is made after that.

I didint pay to register... I registered for free like every one else here... This is an old ID I created for myself in 2007.

i mean why admin pays for us when we registered here for free??

and does he gets paid for being admin?

and does he pay to anyone for anything?(u told that there r huge bills after shifting to india)

Alright my 12 year old engg student.... here is what you asked for:

A website is a business just like every shop every office the only difference is that customers here are online and dont physically come to you.

For instance www.Indiabroadband.net is a website and to buy the domain I spent $10 that is about 450RS then the data you read and write has to go some where so we need hosting service for that which is paid for depending on the type of hosting you buy.

Hosting: Hosting a website required hard disk space which is kept some where physically and to read the info we need processors and ram and everything required to run a server ... including the software and operating system which in our case if a Linux version... There are 3 main types of hosting...

Shared: where you share a server with thousands of other websites.

VPS : Virtual private server where you get a virtual seperation from other accounts on the same server and you dont share resources as they are allocated just for your site.

Dedicated hosting: You get your own dedicated server and your own dedicated ip and dedicated bandwidth.


Now all the above hosting comes at a cost... shared starting from $10 something a month VPS starting from $40-50 going up to more then $1000 depending upon what you want. Dedicated hosting starts from $100-120 and goes up to thousands of dollars depending upon what you want.

Now this cost has to be recovered some how so how does a webmaster gets paid? how does he monotize his website?

Thats a million dollar question and not many visitors realise how a website makes money unless it is physically selling some thing.

www.indiabroadband.net does not sell anything and does not charge its members to use the service provided here but as any business it has to make money to pay for its costs to be able to survive in the long run... So India broadband forum sells its real estate which on a website means space to advertise and in our case it is adsense whcih fills the advertising space which is only visible to new visitors and members dont get to see any advertising atall hence the site is a profit making venture.. Now why did Aaron pay for this site shouldnt remain a mystry any more after this explaination that like every other business a website also makes money one way or the other.

I remember a while ago I started a mission to make sure every member here starts a blog and starts making money as I wanted to pay back to the community and give a helping hand in bringing the precious foreign exchange into the country but not many people showed interest and those who came into those threads just came to advertise their sites which is not what those threads were for.... I started those threads to share my knowledge but a sincere effort to help others without expecting anything back from them is always looked upon with suspicion and it was no different for me so I did carry it on as there was no demand for it

I don't disclose my financial transactions.... you could try Aaron may be he does coz we don't have a nondisclosure clause.... but don't come back to me to find out if he is telling the truth or not because you already know that I don't disclose
