Visitor Messages

Is visitor messaged disabled? I can't see in any of the profiles. I had some useful links in my visitor message.

Come to think of it - I did not notice this.

If this is the price of moving to India based servers (loss of attachments, loss of albums, loss of avatars, etc.), then I will vote for moving back to USA servers.

I really feel their need...the Inbox gets full so quickly.....or maybe we will get used to with time
The Admin has taken the move to shift servers to india and i dont think we should react this way, yes we need to cut down on things, but it was his decision and we need to respect it...

yeah i fell the need too....

VM was useful in case of not that much private or simly hi, hello messages.

I agree with just4kix to shift the server back to USA.

The company must have made significant investment, both in terms of money and time, to move the content to India based servers.

I am not unilaterally asking to revert the move. All I am saying is, if the move meant loss of some important features, because disk space/hosting, etc. is costlier in India, then I would prefer to have the hosting back in USA.

As it is, I never faced latency related issues when the hosting was from USA.

I have no idea where to turn visotors messages on from ... will turn them on as soon as I find out how to do it.

For albums I would suggest having a subdomain that could be used to uploading and storing images on an offshore server may be on some $10 hosting in US...

I dont know if Aaron would agree to it but its still worth a try I dont mind spending some time setting everything up if need be.

Disk space is not an issue its just the bandwidth which is a killer and I have already started to doubt the benefits of moving to India.

If Albums is not available, so be it.

But I would like to have some temporary previleges to edit the post (Widescreen info thread), so that I can upload the pictures back.

I also felt the same way. in another forum,
I can edit MY post any time. For instance some external links like rapidshare/image shack are no longer available.

@admin may not like the post to be deleted
completely !
We have to repost the message ( reedited) with external links if needed.

Yahoo gave warning/s before removing albums/photos etc , for user/s to retrieve them .
and save it somewhere else.

And if you are inactive in email programs/, even your registration is removed after a period of time. All my folders /messages etc were deleted.
( Hotmail / sify mail,for instance ).

so i think now we should move back to USA as the features of the site are decreasing.(useful ones too)

but tell me will the contest be canceled when we move back to USA?

Also, out-going links from forum help other sites... That's acceptable in troubleshooting... or when someone specifically asked for some information which is not available on our forum...

But ref to external link/s ( say BSNL / some blogs /Dlink/Netgear etc ) cannot be avoided .
They give more information, than what members can type in brief/digest/condensed forms. and also check the accuracy of the information provided by us.

It would be far better if we had the servers in Singapore or Malaysia. Low latencies and cost should be lesser too.
