Thread: Make a wish

Its that time again! We will have a major make over for the forum and a few things that would include are:

Allowing attachments again
Albums will be enabled again
PM limit will be increased from 50 to 100 for senior members.
Avatars will be allowed for everyone.
Visitor messaging will be allowed again.
Signature character limit will be increased


And a few more things that would make our experience on the forum better then ever before.

Another major developement would be making sure that the forum pages load even more faster then they do now and also making sure that some visitors that get blank pages now wont get it anymore and the site would be able to take more visitors load.


The above changes are a part of www.indiabroadband.net 's aim to provide an excellent visitor experience. These are not the only changes that would take place and there is much more which would be more of a under the hood kind of change and would not be visible from outside but yes the effects would be felt by our members and visitors alike.

So what's going to change all this? Well thats a surprise for now and you will all find out in the next 48 hours..

I have always wanted to do this when I owned this site but never really gathered courage to spend so much money that it would take to bring about these changes.. Aaron has very kindly increased the monthly budget for the site and made these things possible.

We will see a bit of downtime in the next 48 hours.


Please make a wish here about what you would like to see changed on this forum and if it is feasible then it would be implemented.. Also if you see any restrictions that you would like to see go away then please list them here.


Contest will have to wait till we bring about these changes but be assured that this contest will have a lot bigger cash prizes

My wishlist !

• Have more Ads on the page visible even to members
• Have visitor messages enabled
• Provision of internet radio via IBF media player

Can we have visitor messages ? It was quite handy method of communication. Will reduce a lot thanks , hello in regular threads.

Can we reduce the minimum character limit to 5 or 10. Now it is very difficult to say only thanks or thank you.

Enabeling visitor messages is a done deal Will also reduce the character limit.

@Rajan I dont see what purpose would enabeling ads for members serve apart from increasing revenue for Aaron... How does that improve a member's experience on this forum?

Radio broadcast idea can be discussed with Aaron as I cannot decide on that.... I can only make decisions on what we already have and rest I am only able to make suggestions like all other members here

well the ads are some times pretty handy
They would also add some color to the forum


what i meant was, personally i don't mind them at all.


also, please increase the character limit in the sign, i cant even link my threads there.

Hence, many people can thank someone/a post, hence it would reduce the number of posts. This stat can be shown in their profile, just like rep points (e.g. meetdilip was thanked totally 3378 times in 2000 posts)

yeah thanks button would be good.
and VM should also be enabled again.

And also we should have "resolved" button for a thread which only the thread starter,admin or mods can select.

And please announce the mods soon.

I will like to see some eye candy skins being implemented to improve the visual experience. hope others too will like that.

And ofcourse a thread should be closed after a certain period of time or when it gets resolved.

Please have a light blue or light green theme.

I understand what you mean by closing a thread after its been on the forum for some time, but because we have new members all the time, and they have the same problem or situation or question regarding that thread then they wont be able to contribute to it, which would mean they would end up opening a duplicate thread!!

Its good only if they have a problem and if they cant sort it out from older threads then they can start a new thread which will get more attention from members than a old thread which reopened after a period of say 1, 2 or more years.

The other demerit is that if a old thread is reopened then a member or gust who is not aware of it will end up going for starting to end.

i don't mind reopening of old threads as long as the request is genuine. Its a nice way to get new members too. Otherwise they will just look elsewhere without posting.

P.S.- If prizes are bigger for new contest, there should be some minimum word limit too... This will ensure that the quality is maintained... Also, members already had a warm-up... They should be more motivated this time...

I'm so used to clicking... that the idea of just typing-in looks irrelevant... Also, the page doesn't have to reload when accessing present quick reply...

We would need to upgrade to a newer version to be able to do that as the version we use develops problems like lost replies or your replies getting posted in other threads instead of where you intend them to be.

We cannot upgrade to the newer version as there are still some unresolved basic issues with the newer versions thats why we just keep adding only the security patches instead of actually upgrading the script itself. VB4.x is out now and even vbseo supports it but there are a few SEO related issues which I believe would result in decreased traffic to our forum hence reducing activity on here.


By the way for those who dont know we actually moved to a new server last night and its a very mean machine and the best ever I have worked on in respect to speed and RAM and what not

This is what we have now :

i7 processor ( its not that great but we never need so much processing power as we do RAM

12GB DDR3 Ram extendable upto 32GB going farward.

Hard drive : we dont have hany hard drives any more as we have got 2 X SSD X-25E 80 GB with Raid 0 for extra speed.

So now our MYsql lices on that 12 GB DDR3 RAM and when some times stuff gets locked we fetch it from the super fast SSD's which are 22 times faster then the standard 7200 RPM hard drives.

And we now have a 1000mbps dedicated uplink on this box.

All this has obviously came with a price tag which is even higher then it was when we hosted in India.

For those who are wondering why RAID 0 and not raid 1 or raid 10.... well raid 0 because with RAID 10 the hardware bottlenecks and we loose out on performance. Raid 0 provides a lot better performance with ssd as compared to raid 1 or raid 10

So what do you think about the all pimped up www.indiabroadband.net ?

Latency has gone up as we are in states again but we make up for it by reducing the time it takes for our server to produce the page for you on every click click click click

Now we dont have any bandwidth issues or speed issues as we have for an allowance of 4000GB premium bandwidth per month.

Rest of the changes will follow during the day starting now and at the end of the day we launch our contest...


So how many of you feel the forum's gone faster or otherwise?

Yes, I just noticed that the server is back in the US... The Flagfox addon of Firefox confirmed it... Avg. time for ping has gone a little over 300 ms... However, I can't feel any slowness in the page loading session...

Nice to know about SSDs... They are the in thing...

Those who have a Tata connection will experience better latency more like 280-290ms.

The reason you didint notice increased latency is because the time it takes to load a page from our forum has now reduced to half Takes 50% less time then it used to while hosting in India even after accounting for higher latency.

Try this :

Compare www.indiabroadband.net loading times with other forums and thats when you will feel the difference
