    Default Advertising on the forum

I have noticed that some members here have links in their signatures to sites that directly compete with this forum and we do allow them to be there without any complaints but some members have started posting links to such sites where they are not even required or to such articles on those sites that are already been covered on this forum as well and they very well know it.

I have deleted someone's signature and a few posts as well.

You have been warned! I will not care if you have 5000 posts on this forum or 20000! You need to understand that if you run this site would you allow what you have been doing?

I will explain it to the person concerned. Haven't touched your signature.

If some one needs help with establishing their website I welcome them and would spend hours helping them out but picking up on threads with a lot of traffic on this forum and posting links there is not welcome.

Signature with Competing urls shall be deleted all at once..

IBF is not a promotion site. And i think admin must make the flexible rules more strict now.

Signatures shouldnt be allowed for new members till they have 300 posts..

Interesting. I was just going to ask a similar question, so I hope you will not me asking here.

I am contributing to a website (InternetPrivacy) that provides information on internet privacy and safety. The site is not-for-profit and I link to it in my sig. One of the main reasons I post on this forum is because I've seen a lot of people here that can use some of the edification the website (in my sig) provides and otherwise also, and I'd like to contribute in this area. However, I am interested in collecting information (mainly my posts and any common misconceptions that I notice) from here and having something written about it on the website (not, by any means, copying someone else's post).

    Can I,
    (a) Post links whenever appropriate, quoting important points and describing (not copying) the connection between the thread on IBF and the page linked to? I will be judicious in this matter as I do not have any incentive to post an unnecessarily large number of links to the website. Like I said, I'm doing it only because I feel there are people who can do with this kind of information.
    (b) copy-paste whole pages on a certain topic that is very relevant stating clearly the source and the copyleft statement and follow up on the discussion (I won't simply put a link and forget about it)?
    (c) (should I find a very good post) link to a post on IBF (without quoting it) in a "Further reading" section?

    Thanks

post the link here only if necessary and such information is not present in the forum. I dont think quoting full articles here and then linking back would be allowed...

    @safeguy
As your website does not clash with the
IBF forum ( as a competitor)you may use the link as signature here.
As a member, i don't find any "clash of Interests"
This website of yours is concerned more about Privacy related issuesin the web , rather than solving Broadband ISP's related problems/modems cellphones etc etc.

That's true, but I do find IBF has both the appropriate audience and those capable of contributing to make my website relevant to IBF's users (i.e. there are enough people here who need to be told these things and enough who are good enough that they can explain these too, and so we can have healthy discussions on related subjects). As the scope of this forum doesn't seem to be limitted to BB (clearly there are many more sub-forums), I don't think I've come to the wrong place. So yes, I'm hoping that it is relevant enough that users here might find it useful and at the same time there isn't any clash of interest.
