Default Likes in every post and their purpose

Since we have upgraded to the newer version of Vbulletin we have this new likes system in place where you can hit the like button for the posts that you like but I believe not many people know what it really does to make a visitors experience better so I thought I would explain this to every one.

When you go to a thread with say 50 replies and as we all know not all of those 50 replies are very useful so if some good people have hit the like button on the most useful posts in that thread there will be a notification on top right or that thread page listing out which all posts got how many likes and when you click on it the list expands and instead of going through the whole thread you can just go to say for example the post that got say 20 likes as thats the post most likely to have the resolution to the issue posted in that thread.

I would request all members to hit like in posts that they believe is the correct resolution to an issue posted in a new thread.

For example this thread : http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...-february.html

Has 26 likes and that heart shaped icon on top right on that page if you clik on it it will give you a breakdown of what post got how many likes and had this been a troubleshooting thread it would be very convenient to go to the post that has most amount of likes hence saving a lot of reading and time for every member here.

Previously we had the "Reputations" method of saying a "thank you" for useful post. Although that system was good, it had some major drawbacks. You could not give a "rep" to the same person again and again unless you also rewarded some other persons in between. In fact this topic was discussed upteen times in the forum. For instance, here are a few threads:

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/genera...po-points.html
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...-settings.html
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...on-points.html
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...ep-powers.html
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...ime-based.html
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/sugges...r-website.html

Another aspect or disadvantage of the "Repo system" was that, when it did, it rewarded the poster only and not the forum itself - although one could say that a good post ultimately results in good inward traffic.

Anyway, the new system of "Like" is based on the FB principal and if a thread/post gets many "Likes", it results in good SEO ranking as well.

Hence, I suggest that users should really use this feature, not only to encourage users but help the forum also. Needless to state that you can now awards "Likes" to any post you like (even older ones), in any orders, to the same person again and again, etc.

No limits about this. It is a simple digital equation: you like or you don't like.

^^ yes of course we must report it..

like if for ex. some member is liking my spams, its duty of others to report it.. (though chances are less it will change anything)

We also have a "Facebook Connect" button at the top. By clicking this button you can link your FB account with the forum account. Once done, you can even "like" threads and post them to your Facebook wall or share them with friends.

I encourage users to use this feature. You can like your own articles also. I liked my own "Home Theatre" articles and posted them on my wall. I have been getting queries from my friends since then.

Another thing is that, if you are writing a good post, you will also see "Publish to Facebook" check-box next to the "Post" buttons. Another way of announcing yourself on the web.

And people have stopped hitting the Google+ button as well. I am sure we have more then 101 regular members. Stats show we get 400+ registered members visiting the forum every day and out of those less then 50 are new registrations so we do have a lot of regular members its just that people aren't taking any interest in helping the community grow.
