Thread: Signature links

As you all must already know that we allow our members to have their own site links in signatures but some members have been kind of over doing it..

I would like to get everyone's opinion on this one rather then deciding on my own..

One thing is for sure that You are not allowed to have affiliate links in your signatures.

How many links should be allowed in signatures?

Please vote and we shall arrive at a mutually acceptable decision soon on this.


I also have a request : As you all can advertise your sites in signatures please refrain from advertising in posts ... This is not a place to advertise and it just creates a mess here and also increases my work load as I always delete those posts.

Two, I'm using only one now, though.

I'd like to have a limit on text size too. I remember an active member here using size=5 or 6 in his/her signature.

At most two unless some links are within this forum itself.

Yeah me 'two'. 2 external links and 3 internal links are more than enough.

I most probably wont be using any outside links ....

But i need ATLEAST 3 inside links ....I dont think we should put a cap on the no of inside links ??

Nobody is misusing it ?....

But if thats not practical then we should have 3/4 links in total .....

It depends on the Forumer, I prefer having as many links, not to spam or for refferal link(may be just one. ) but to show off, your profile (skills).

Attention:
As per popular decision, we are limiting the external signatures to two (2) only. Internal links are allowed to exceed 2 but please restrict total links (internal + external) to no more than 4 or 5.

Also Forum rules in FAQ Page for signature state:

1. Max 3 lines text using font size 12 (bbcode font=Normal) or smaller and using forum width 680 pixels.
2. Max image size 400x60 and max file size 10kbyte.
3. No animated images and only GIF, JPG or PNG images.

All members are advised to adhere to the above rules and prune their signatures if required. If we find signatures that do not comply with the above rules, we may delete them. Also note that advertising rules apply to signatures as well.

Why is this rule implemented?
1. Long signatures make the post lengthy for no reason at all.
2. Long signatures are irritating to many.
3. We do not want to be a medium for free advertising. The webmaster has a right to earn money out of sponsored links.
4. Links to personal websites and blogs are allowed. That is not considered advertising as long as they are not revenue earning sites for the owner of the signature. But surely two such links are more than enough.
5. The three text lines should be good enough for you. You can announce yourself with that but the three lines are not intended for personal biodata, your computer specs, your ISP details, etc. Please use the User CP for this.
6. The idea is that people should be able to scroll quickly from post to post and not distracted by long text, animated GIFs, etc.

Hope you will understand the reasoning.

I have voted for 2. It is the apt number.

If the user is going to put internal links, then there need not be a limit as they can't misuse those internal links, they themselves will not have much links in their signature.

i dont understand when people are given a chance for links, which take advantage of it and just ruin it for everyone else, like SEO BOT did, he had the chance to give three links, but he used a large image which was annoying, whats the point, its stupid people like that you ruin the forum.

For the sake of conversation-- Who knows SEO BOT is using a different handle now... There is a rush of new members here... May be cuz of new Lounge section... But we should be prepared for anything like that again...

Admin don't u've tools to check n verify the I.Ps of users or something like that... To make it sure that SEO BOT gets banned before he tries one of his dirty tricks again...:death:
