That i do not know. But due to the usage of MPEG-4 bandwidth is saved and the extra bandwidth can be used for adding additional channels.

ok. thanks for the info ... when the demand for number of channels reaches such a stage that MPEG2 or 4 will have a significant part to play, i am sure Tata sky will also implement the latest technology ..

But this MPEG-4 technology is one the latest marketing gimmick commonly employed by many DTH providers. I hope TS also implements the same shortly..

But this is not advantage as well as you can counter this by haveing more number of Transponders. Tata Sky has more number of transponders is it can have as many channels as DTH with MPEG-4 technology. Also, there is no difference in picture quality.
