Thread: Sun DTH Ad

Why is there no ad for Sun DTH, whereas there are always ads for Tata Sky, Dish TV and Big TV and other DTH services.

Maybe they are advertising in the south only. Sun DTH is not available north of Karnataka - so why waste money on national advertising?

Sun DTH is only available in South India....So you may see the advt only in South India not throughout India.

Oh ok, i thought that if there was a DTH service it would be throughout India, wouldn't that put a company to loss if they only provided to a certain part of India?

I suppose, they are planning to make themselves stronger in South India and then to conquer north SUN NETWORK is basically Tamil People so targetting south India first.

I do not think so.

SunTV is I think owned by Karunanidhi's people.

Sun TV started operations with many self owned channels under the brand "Sun" and there are quite popular in the south. Later on they ventured into the DTH space. When they launched the DTH service they are getting these "Sun" brand channels very cheap as they are self owned.

For other DTH operators, to operate in South, they need to provide the "Sun" channels on their platform and they are paying much higher cost for these channels. That is the reason why South packages on TataSky and DishTV are either costly or not as good as "Sun DTH". Hence in the south, Sun DTH will succeed.

North come to the north and there Sun TV looses out on home advantage. Now they have to provide the Hindi channels that are owned by Star TV or Zee TV. They will get these channels at a equal reciprocal high price and that will make their package costly. Either that or they have to discount themselves.

hmmm, Yes, your point has sense. And that could be the reason why SUN DTH is not providing much of English channel and Hindi channel.

But a small correction. SUN DTH is not operated by Karunanidhi's people. It is owned by Kalaanidhi Maaran who is the son of ex central minister Murasoli Maaran. Both Karunanidhi and Maaran's family have political issue between them. So, SUN DTH is purely owned by Maaran.

Sun TV is advertising where ever they are present..

And that's right. Going the TATA (Amir Khan) and Dish (Shahrukh) way is too expensive ..
