Default Can "Nano" lead to global disaster?

Do you think that TATA new and the world cheapest car "Nano" can lead to global disaster. As you know people would surely go for this car as it is cheap but it can have a lot of negative effect on many different things. One of these example is that this car as being cheap would be produced in huge numbers but as it does not have any security feature which in terms of accident can even cost life and second thing when this car would be completely useless it would create a large number of metal scrap. Do you think it is good?

What do you say about it?

Well as of the junk then i think the recycling thing can handle it but as of the traffic chaos then i am sure that it would have a big negative effect on ourself.

I dont think that this one would lead to Global Disaster in any terms but as Xibit has said i also think that it would possibly lead to a big traffic chaos in India.

"Nano" would just change the scenario of the two wheeler market in India. Nothing much more then this.. I dont think it would lead to global disaster.

Not a global one but in india surely... what will happen to the roads here which are already jammed with cars... has any1 thought what wud happen (that is about to happen) if you replace all motorcyles on the roads with nanos... the pollution levels wud go off the roof, there wud be jams all over the place...

The only upside of the production of nano in my view is that the people driving the 800 will NOT have the cheapest car in the world anymore

Delhi will become a living hell Its already one but nano will push it one step furthur..

If people start using cng on nano then every bike owner will find driving a nano much cheaper and a lot of people will switch from bikes to nano..

I would be more than happy to see that happening if Delhi government can do something about the traffic situation that will develop

It is interesting to note that most of the "Nano" enquiries were from people wanting a second car - and not from first time buyers, as was widely expected.

This could a few things:

- Second car owners may or may not convert their enquiry into a purchase. I foresee some issues in such people going for a "lesser" car.
- First time users and up-converts from 2-wheeler to 4-wheeler class may wait for reports on the car before buying

But in the long run, if volume sales really click, the roads will become a full fledged horror flick (from the nightmare of current). But all people have the right to a car. In Pune, the talk is on for a Metro but going by the Bangalore example I have no idea when it will see the reality. If I have a good clean metro, I will stop driving tomorrow.

Assuming that you mean metro trains by "metro" We already have them here in Delhi and in my opinion it has not changed the traffic siruation much... rush hour is still a big no no People do not follow traffic rules and lanes are meant to be switched every 15 seconds is what they thing... no ques in case of a traffic jam.. people would just jump and go furthur up and block the already jammed traffic.

The main problem is that we in India dont have to go through a strict test before we get our liscence.

By "Metro", I did mean metro rail. I am assuming that the reason why traffic situation has not been helped much in Delhi is because the metro is not spread out in breadth.

How about the traffic situation in Metro connected areas? Still the same or worse?

And yes. We Indians have no traffic sense. Even I am sometime forced to jump lanes - I hate doing it but have little option. Police are only interested in lifiting vehicles from "no parking" areas and accepting bribes to release them later.

If only Police start hefty fine for lane cutting and driving on wrong side, we can improve. In UK and Europe, the roads are no wider than ours but everything is still so smooth.

The metro was good when it had just started... nowadays you don't get a seat (specially if u a are a male) at any time of the day. No point in standing and travelling with a stop every minute, with all the jam packed people inside you wish there were some open windows instead of the underpowered air conditioning... The journey now is like hell in the metro.

I think most of the people who use the metro today are the people who were previously travelling by bus...So i dont see how the traffic situation might improve by it....

I, for one, have just stopped using the metro altogether because of the above reasons.

@just4kix the situation is just the same in the connected areas. I dont see why anyone wud leave the comfy confines of their cars to travel by the metro and get a headache till they get off.

everyone has right to own a car.u cant tell people not to buy it bcoz it will cause traffic problems.its upto the goverment to develope more infrastructure.
A four member family travelling on a nano is safer than using a bike

That's 100% true but in India few places(specially where I stay) where roads are already saturated now in this point more car mean ready for regular jam.So at first Govt. should create the proper infrastructure in transportation then release Nano otherwise few cities will be just stop.

absolutely, the government is not taking adequate steps for improving infrastructure, but they want the economic to get boosted.

so far No country got developed without a good and reliable infrastructure,
but our politicians are trying to boost development without analyzing this fact at all.

therefore, we should just accept the fact that nothing will EVER be done in this country for the good of its people, and stop blaming the hooligans+puppets for being laid back. they r just living up to their name.

so just chill.

Though the Nano seems all nice n cute, I dont think it's viable in a city like Mumbai or Delhi or kolkata where the traffic is forever jammed.. Dis cud just add to the traffic n help in raising the pollution levels that are already off the charts..Mabbe in some of the slightly less developed town n cities it would be fine.. but not here.. Also, I think, most people buy cars as for them it is a symbol of their status n I dont really see how having a "cheap" car (actually, the cheapest in the market) could enhance ne1's social status..

its not point talkin about traffic sense....ppl drive crazy man...i mean the other day i had a fren from uk who was driving here.....we were driving on the highway n my fren wanted to change lane from left to right....n he gave in an indicator for it...n here the person driving behind thought we were giving side to him...n he also strted overtaking.....i mean damn it......we were looking so didnt bump into him...or else....???

wht cud we do.....? theres no parking usually available @ most of the places...! also educted ppl keep their cars on roads n go off..... apart form tht i dunno in my town ahmedabad.....ppl sumhow dont tend to park their cars in underground parkings.......i wonder the reason y....?

one more blunder on how ppl drive.....i had gone to this mall about 2-3 weeks back n i was getting out of the underground parking n theres this guy whos tryin to go out of tht parking....so it was uphill n it was written tht use first gear....dunno wht happened......the car came down back....n banged with the person's car behind him....i was like **** man!!!! whoz paying the damage??? also ppl on traffic signals stand on extreme left if they wanna go extreme right n vice versa...its soo crazy......
