There are tons of issues with Tata...

You are lucky to get connected, I get connected once in a week and this is not an exception, this is the pattern for last 4mths without fail.

On a good day (when the connectivity is up) I do get a speed of 100kbps.

You can log a call with the support and let their lineman check the speed, though they won't be of any help

And if it a postpaid connection, then I would advice to get it disconnected.

When you said 60-80KB/sec ... how did you check the speed?

at 2mbps you should be getting about 240-250KB/sec

Try testing your speed at speedtest.net on different servers and see how it goes.

Please test your speeds at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and post the results here.

I suspect that you are using bit torrent and you have not forwarded your port.

i live in chennai nd i had terrible problems with tata indicom broadband.. its terrible.. when i used the home 128kbps ul, i used to have disconnections every 30min all the time. the problem wasnt solved til the end. then i changed my plan to 2mbps and expected 256kBps but got only 50K max.. terrible.. well i heard dat its better nowadays.. the speeds atleast come up2 200K MAX(PATHETIC)... i strongly suggest dat u change to bsnl or airtel.. bsnl is cheaper but airtel is faster nd has good service..
    hope this was helpful:thumbup:

    ramyareddy,

Your questions and assumptions are all wrong. You are asking why HYD people are not replying? But you have not replied to any of the questions that have been asked: Have you done a speed test at speedtest.net? If yes, what is the speed that your are getting? Kindly post the results.

Also you have not mentioned the plan name. Tata Indicom is not the best service provider. Consiquently their subscriber base is also smaller and that is why you are not getting response from the thread.

Also your assumption that BSNL is costly is completely inaccurate. BSNL provides the Home 500 C and Home 500 C+ plans for Rs. 500 and Rs. 600 pm respectively that includes night unlimited from 2 AM to 8 AM. These plans provide speeds up to 2 mbps.

In my opinion you should opt for BSNL.

    Hello Ramya,

Let us look at the details of Quick Power 300 plan and compare with the BSNL plan Home 500 C+ value in braces and better values are highlighted in bold blue:

    • Plan: Quick Power 300 (BSNL Home 500 C+)
    • Speed: QP300 = 256 Kbps up to 2 Mbps (H500C+ = 256 Kbps up to 2 Mbps)
    • Plan value (MRP): QP300 = Rs. 6,371 for 6 months (H500C+ = Rs. 7200 for a year) - Advantage BSNL
    • Pack Value: QP300 = Rs. 5,670 (H500C+ = Rs. 6000 for a year) - Advantage BSNL
    • Effective monthly rate: QP300 = Rs. 945 (H500C+ = Rs. 500) - Advantage BSNL
    • Validity: QP300 = 6 months (12 months)
    • Usage limit: QP300 = 300 hrs. (H500C+ = 2.5 GB) - Advantage Tata Indicom
    • Nighttime Usage Time: QP300 = 9 PM and 9 AM (H500C+ = 2 AM to 8 AM) - Advantage Tata Indicom
    • Nighttime Usage Cost: QP300 = Rs. 299 (H500C+ = Free!!!) - Advantage BSNL

On top of that you are required to service tax at 12.36%. I utterly fail to comprehend, how you find all of the cheap?

As compared to that BSNL combo plans are Rs. 500 or Rs. 600 and plus you get a free landline with some free calls also.

    - There is no risk with BSNL as long as you restart the modem at 2 AM and once again at 8 AM. There are guides in this forum for this. I have written one of them and you do not have to wake up.
    - BSNL combo plans are good for torrent but online movies you would like to watch during day time and hence these plans will be costly. Then for you the another plan is UL1350+.

I will advise to switch to BSNL.

2.5 gb is enough for browsing since u can keep all ur downloads for night.. the speeds u get at nite is from 200-240kB/s

You did not look at my profile on the LHS. You would have found that I am from Pune.

For browsing, the typical usage is around 20KB per page. With a 1.5GB limit this translates to over 78000 pages per month. This is more than enough for browsing. With 2.5GB you have even more limit.

The speeds that you get at night depends. With torrents I was able to get over 210 KB/s. But it all depends upon seeds.

Just had a look at the PrePaid tariffs for Hyderabad on TIBM website. It seems they no longer offer 256Kbps/2Mbps plans. All offers are fixed at 512Kbps. So that is what you should get even during the Night Unlimited hours. ie. 64 KiloBytes/sec.

If you are getting more then either you are still on one of the older plans or simply lucky (Yes they have messed up the Kbps thing before).

And about the torrents. Well, many think that downloads are not affected by improper port forwarding. I have found that to be untrue. With most torrent clients the maximum download speed is a multiple of the maximum upload speed. So you cannot expect to get a download speed of 256KBps if you have set the maximum uploading speed to 5KBps. Most clients will correct the download speed.

And I am from Pune and I am satisfied with my connection (and download speeds, of around 216 KBps on a sustained basis with no disconnections, so far) though not very satisfied with customer service. I have had to make a few calls to them, mostly about financial matters. They have been helpful but at times it takes a lot of energy to make them understand what is wrong. And each call goes to a different 'Customer Executive' so you have to explain the whole problem again unless you have been given a complaint number.
