Well fortunately I do not have a Tata Indicom connection but my brother has and I was so overwhelmed by his plight that I resorted to write this review. Let me share with you mine and my brother’s experiences with several service providers (the primary focus being Tata Indicom):
Tata Indicom:

When I first came to know about Tata Indicom broadband I thought that probably this would be the end of my search for a good Internet service provider at the new city where I recently joined a new job. My preference even though was Airtel Broadband as I had used it earlier in past butthey did not have connectivity in my area. So, I went to website of Tata Indicom and was quite impressed by it. It had online application and status tracking for new connection. I called them and after about 5+ minutes, they generated some reference number and told me that they will do feasibility study and somebody will get in touch with me in 72 Hrs. Well, I waited for a week and no response. I finally took Internet from Hathway. After two weeks I received an email from Tata Indicom that their feasibility study is done and somebody will contact me to give the connection. Well, two more weeks have passed and still nobody contacted me. I wonder why their representatives tell 72 Hrs when they need weeks. Otherwise also who on this planet is such a hard core fan of Tata Indicom that they are ready to wait for months for new connection. Those old days of BSNL like monopoly are gone and companies with such a callous attitude towards new subscribers may not survive.
Well that was my experience with Tata Indicom. My brother’s experience is even more horrible. A Tata Indicom person met him and offered a new connection. Again since there were quite few service providers in his area of residence, he opted for Tata Indicom. The marketing guy promised him connection in two-three days and even agreed to get the connection on weekend (Sunday) as my brother works mon-sat. Well he gave the conection charges also in advance. But whole week was passed (beyond the promised day) and no response from Tata Indicom. He called them several times and never received any satisfactory response. They even disassociated themselves from their earlier statement that they can give connection on Sunday. Anyway, he lodged a complain at the higher level where he was told to call after 15 days. So, you can see none of the promises were kept. Anyway, finally after more than two weeks he received the connection (after lot of frustration) and it worked fine for few weeks and the it suddenly stopped working. He lodged complaint but again as usual no satisfactory answer. At the time of writing this review, more than 4 days have passed and his Internet is not working. Tata needs to come out of PSU like functioning in terms of customer care if they want this to be a viable business. I can’t say about speed as I personally donot use this connection.
Airtel Broadband

Excellent customer care and professional attitude Their reprentative came to meet me at home and explained the plan and offered very good package (free modem, 10% discount for first year, free landline etc). Everything was complete in three days including verification, connection, demonstration etc. I have full praises for them. They mentioned that if I face problems with my connection and they could not rectify in one hour then they will pay me 100 Rs. And this will be valid for any problem and any number of times. Speed as excellent. Looks like Tata need to learn lot from Airtel and has long way to go in satisfying customers.
Hathway

I am more or less satisfied by Hathway. I called them and within 1 hr their representative came and met me. I received the connection in three days. The overall experience though OK is not as great as it was with Airtel. The speed also is bit slow (probably because bandwidth in case of cable modem is shared among all users in your neighbourhood unlike DSL where bandwidth is dedicated).
I will not try to shape your decision. You can make your own judgements after reading this review. Just one advice. Customer support is an important thing as frustration that you might suffer in case of dead internet connection could be as high as frustration with dead phone or no cable signal on your TV. Just like your phone and TV are useless without signal, your computer also cant do much with dead internet connection so go for a connection by the provider that offers u better after sales service.
