In India, most of the ISPs provide upload speeds which is equal to 1/5th of download speed.

have u noticed this in case of torrents? maybe there were not enough leechers ... tata indicom provides equal and constant UL speed as the DL speed

Ya its more or less like that.
I got 1/8 upload speed for hathway, full bandwidth for upload with mtnl (ie. if download is simultaneously zero) and equal upload & download with reliance.

So it depends on your isp.
Before choosing a plan with any isp, always inquire about upload speed coz they usually don't reveal that in the plan info.

    The reason is:
for a Home connection, you are more download more than what you upload.

Most of the ISPs provide ADSL connection, the A stands for assymmetric, which inturn means not similar or symmetric. Hence the difference in uploads/downloads.

but i think this happens in case of tata ... i get full upload speed also with my 384 ul tata connection ...

infact i get more upload speed than 384 ... look at the average outgoing transfer rate ...

note: i wasnt downloading anything here .... just was surfing some pages ...thats why the low dl speeds ... dont consider it

Different kinds of DSL connections exist. Tata maybe giving SDSL connections in which the upload speed = download speed. ADSL is the popular form of DSL implemented.

SDSL stands for symmetric digital subscriber line. The upload and the download speeds will be the same on such connections. Besides the line cannot be used for analog calls. Hence the reason why tata indicom broadband doesnt give landline service through the telephone line laid, which other providers like BSNL, Airtel do.

Static IPs are required when u are hosting a webserver, e-mail server, FTP services.

Dynamic IPs are most commonly employed for home purposes which include browsing the internet, email/chat, downloads.

In BSNL's Unlimited plans (UL750/UL750+/UL1350/UL1350+), the upload speed is equal to download speed. But this Tata Indicom we are talking about. It is up to the provider on how they wish to implement the schemes. TRAI's guidline is just that, to qualify for broadband, minimum speed (download or upload) must be 256 kbps.

That is a misinformation. Torrent downloads are independent upon the type of IP address being allocated to a particular subscriber.

I maybe wrong i will wait for other members to fill in

Dynamic IP makes no difference in Torrents. All BSNL Home plans provide dynamic IP only.

arre yaar ... these are two different softwares ... du meter and bit lord ... the top box is DU meter

du meter shows the data a fraction of a section later than bitlord ... i.e just a moment ago the screenshot was taken the download speed was what u see in du meter ...

    why its 451kbps?? :-

my connection speed is 384 kbps ... i.e the average speed while downloading remains about 384-390 kbps .... that doesnt mean that the download speed at any instance cannot go beyond 384 ...

the speed ranges from 150- 800 kbps at an instance ...

ex: take a period of 5 seconds:

    sec1: 520kbps
    sec2: 200kbps
    sec3: 250 kbps
    sec4: 400 kbps
    sec5: 550 kbps

i hope its clear now ... thats why i always post the pics of average transfer rate using du meter stopwatch ....

and du meter never shows incorrect usage ...

in bit lord itself the uload/download ranges from 35 to 60 KBps but the average remains around about 48KBps i.e 384kbps... in case of torrents from good source

    another difference between the two:

DU meter shows data transfer records more than once each second ... i.e. the display changes very fast ...

Bitlord transfer rate display is just a bit less frequent than DU meter ... i.e the reason why bitlord shows up the average speed for a period of say 1 sec ... whereas DU meter displays the transfer rate for about 2-4 times per second ...

i hope ur doubts are clear after this thread ... if u need i can share my bit lord preferences settings SS with u if that can help ... there are a few things which i change and it helps improving the speed slightly ... i got a video from youtube which shows step step setting of preferences ...i follow that ...

how can it be possible yaar when ur connection speed is 384 kbps.........coz at that speed u can hardly get the UL nd DL speeds sub total of 384....i mean how can u cross the BW limit........???

it is like this from the very beginning ... thats why i always keep shouting ... for getting the mentioned speed tata indicom is the best ...

they dont term their packages like "UPTO 384 Kbps" ... it is 384 on an average ... in fact more than it

.... i have added some more info in my previous post ...
