Default problem sharing net with Netgear FS608 switch

Hi,

I've recently taken a "Wi-max" connection. I have 3 pcs in my flat. I am trying to connect all the three to internet using a "Switch" (netgear fs608) and the tata indicom modem . I was "NOT" given "ANY STATIC IP". Looks like i may not get it in the near future too . The core of the problem is: When one of the system logins into the dialer page successfully, the other cannot login, it says "Incorrect Username/Password". I m well frustrated. Can any plzzz help with this issue.

Thanks in Advance

the problem is not with your netgear switch. even i use netgear switch to do the same. i think you need to configure your connection to set it like always connected as soon as the pc is turned on. i am not sure how to do this on wi-max. you can see this post on how to share connection using netgear switch : http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...tml#post101586 (help me for using 2 PCs)

The modem can be connected to the switch. Disable the DHCP functionality of the switch and assign static IPs for the three PCs. U should be able to share the internet connection amongst the three PCs.

i dont think there is any such option to disable DHCP functionality in a swtich - at least netgear switch. i mean, from where do you adjust such properties of a switch. plz tell me if i dont know this, i would like to update myself.

That doesnt seem to be an ADSL modem. It maybe something like a wireless repeater.

The host PC only need to authenticate the connection. Since the rest of the PCs are connected by switch, others need not log in every time. They can start browsing straightaway.

Authentication must be done to establish the connection with the ISP, right? This is done by the host pc. Once the connection is established, it is being equally shared between the other PCs.

Hi Satya,

You can ask TATA to provide you static IP. I has a same issue with wireless router & they gave me a static IP.

Now with no problems... it works fine
