Smile Problem with DSL 2640 T router on Tata Indicom

Hi,

I have a DSL 2640 T wireless router and I recently switched over my ISP to Tata Indicom. But it seems they provide internet on RJ 45 unlike MTNL or BSNL doing it on ADSL. Now the challenge is whether I would be able to connect the Ethernet cable into one of the 4 LAN ports available and also create the PPPoE dialer in the router itself or the dialer would be created on the all nodes connecting to the router.

I want to avoid creating the dialer on PC or laptop.

Would the converter from RJ 45 to RJ 11 would work in this case so that I can use the ADSL port on DSL 2640 T router?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
VAC

Doesnt Tata provide static IP? I too use a 2540T with my BSNL ADSL. But i am unsure how to configure the indicom connection in the router. Have u tried contacting the maintenance engineers, maybe they might help out..

Edit : Just tried with my router. Did u select the Static IP Address in the WAN Settings? Enter the required parameters and please verify whether the connection is getting connected or not..

Thanks for the prompt reply. I just checked from the Tata Indicom guys they say if u have to get a static IP address I need to pay 2000 bucks since I have a prepaid connection with them. So is there any other way out in this.

In the WAN Settings of the router there are four options

1) Dynamic IP address
2) Static IP address
3) PPPoE/PPPoA
4) Bridge Mode

Of these 2 and 4 can be eliminated. Try experimenting with the other two (1 and 3). The (3) is the method i have configured my BSNL broadband connection now. .

All these must be listed in your modem too..
