Default Tata Indicom also introduces Fair usage Policy

Hi Guys,

Today I was going through TE forums and found that TATA Indicom Have also implemented the FAir Usage Policy for their "UNLIMITED Broadband Plans".

Quote:
TCISL Fair Usage Policy (TCISL FUP)

The evolving internet broadband scenario in India necessitates the management of limited high-speed bandwidth and network resources in the larger interests of Customers. In line with the practice followed by major international Internet Service Providers and in its continuous endeavor to provide best possible Broadband Internet experience to all its customers, TCISL adopts a Fair Usage Policy (TCISL FUP) with an intent to ensure that the excessive bandwidth usage by a small segment of customers does not impact service quality for a large set of customers.

TCISL FUP is applicable to all existing and future unlimited plans offered by TCISL unless specifically withdrawn at the discretion of TCISL. Taking into consideration the maximum reasonable usage required by the average user, Tata Indicom Broadband has established a monthly data transfer threshold (Fair Usage Limit) for the various unlimited tariff plans as given below:

Plan Type Plan Speed
(Kbps) Fair Usage Limit
(MB/Month)
Unlimited 64 5,000
Unlimited 128 20,000
Unlimited 256 45,000
Unlimited 384 70,000
Unlimited 512 80,000
Unlimited 1024 90,000
Unlimited 2048 105,000
Unlimited 4096 125,000

Data transfer in excess of Fair Usage Limit as per the applicable tariff plan shall be treated as a violation of TCISL FUP.

Upon such violation of FUP, TCISL shall contact the Customer suggesting for reduction in usage or upgrade to a higher bandwidth plan.

Despite the above, if the customer fails to upgrade to a high speed plan or continue to violate the TCISL FUP, TCISL reserves the right to suspend or terminate the customer’s account immediately without prejudice to other rights available to TCISL under these Terms and Conditions.

the worst thing which could have happened to me...

i was using TI unlimited 384 kbps connection for 1 year ... and just about 15 days ago it expired. i renewed this time for one year with 256kbps unlimited plan.

this is very sad.

i have not been informed by TI about any such change.

I will continue to use my connection as usual ... i.e at 256kbps connection my monthly download will at least be about 60-70 GB

Lets see what they say...

this's worse than airtel, which only reduces the speed by half

then wtf is the point in calling it unlimited plan ?/

i have mailed them .... i have asked to clarify the entire policy clearly. also the fact that - no prior information was given before renewal so at least existing packages should be allowed according to old rules. if they dont agree ... i have asked them to terminate my connection and return me the full remianing amount ... actually its not me who mailed them ... my dad did it ... he knows how to tackle such issues ...

i am very angry over this so called FUP ...

Default All the Best

All the very best to you dont expect anthing less from TATA

I have been a Tata Broadband Customer in Mumbai for 6 months and I want to share my personal experiences with you so that you should go through the mental truama of being a TATA customer.First of all it is the king of downtimes, its not working most of the times.Customer Service is very poor and not existent,Technicians are rude and use your computer to check personal emails,These people employ goondas who disconnect the connection on purpose and use abusive and threatening language on the phone (Mr Bhavesh I am talking about you),Once your renewal time is near these crazy people will harass you day and night to get the renewal done.
FIRST OF ALL TATA PROVIDES SUCH EXCELLENT SERVICE AND THEN EXPECT US TO RENEW.THIS IS CRAP...
AND TATA IS CRAP.
WORST ISP IN MUMBAI HANDS DOWN......

Lets see what they say...[/QUOTE]

OMG, that should be considered illegal. Somebody should sue AirTel/Tata and win some money

If there is a limit of let's say 100 Gb - it must say so in the plan instead of "Unlimited". It's a very basic type of cheating - saying one thing in big letters, and then putting some extra conditions in tiny letters on some other page that nobody ever opens ;-)

On other hand - let's see how they will react once Fair Usage limit is reached, maybe nobody really cares ;-)

i am using flash 256. i am getting 256kbps on day, 1.5mbps on night.i have alredy crossed 20gb in 10 days.now on only i came to know about fup.nobody told about it during connection and they didnt know what fup is.i enquire with the customer care they told that they will suspend the account if i cross fup.that 45gb includes both upload and download.unlike airtel, they will only reduce speed to 50% but it is unlimited only.if u exceed fup they contact u to upgrade to higher plan, they will charge u in the next month.
