Question DNS Discontinuos Ping Problem - Plz Help!

I have been using Tata Indicom Broadband with dynamic IP. For the last 10-15 days the DNS ping results are discontinuous. i.e, the connection is becoming discontinuous. It becomes a problem in case of HTTP downloads and voice chat specially.

But, when i ping the default gateway or the IP address the ping result is continuous.

I called up customer care, lodged complain - but no +ve response from their side. Then i talked with the local nodal officer and the network manager. After checking the connection - the network manager said there is no problem on their end.

This cannot be a problem with my system coz I am facing this in all 3 PCs at my home. Why is this happening? Anything I can do to solve this? Or is this some problem from Tata Indicom's end? What is the difference in DNS and IP ping results actually?

    Try Open DNS

Control panel > Network connections > Local area connection > Properties >

    TCP/IP > Properties

Open DNS is another company. It is independent. I use their DNS as it is better than that of BSNL. Apart from that it block malicious sites.

i just tried pinging your DNS servers and didnt face any time out.. Opendns is a solution as mentioned earlier.. but i dont see how that could affect your HTTP downloads as DNS servers play no role in that!!

    UPDATE :
THere was just 1 packet loss , weird!!

52 packets transmitted, 51 received, 1% packet loss, time 51056ms

I didnt mean to say it is actually affecting HTTP downloads. But, why is this happening? This never happened in the past(before these 10-15 days). What dies the DNS ping actually denotes? How it is different from IP ping?

surely indicates problem with their dns servers , either an overload or other issues..
