Thread: Tata Indicom Broadband amazing problem- frequent disconnect - Please Help

I am new user to TataIndicom Broadband service with 256 infinity Plan in Pune

They have provided me Billion 5200s router with static IP (postpaid connection), I am using Windows XP with SP2 on my desktop machine. I have my onboard Lan card on Asus P5GL-MX motherboard.

Now the problem is that when I use my connection for browsing/downloading
I get frequently disconnected say in around 15-25 mins so at that time when I right click on my network ICON in taskbar and say Repair (to repair local network) I can again get the browsing for next 15-25 mins.

I have done following to analyse problem:

1. Formated my OS and installed fresh copy of WindowsXP with SP2
2. Reset the Router to factory setting and tried again by issue persists
3. Re-install the TCPIP services but no use
4. Increased the DNS cache size but no solution
5. Disabled my Firewall/Antivirus and tried but issue not resolved
6. Disabled NetBios over TCPIP but no solution
7. Verified the connecting cable but no solution

When I ping to my default gateway I get the reply for around 15-25 mins after that Request Time Out, than i have to repair the connection from network icon so I can get the response again.

I also tested the connection on different machine and able to reproduce the same problem and by repair it works for some more time. So this made me clear that there is no hardware confliction or OS version issue.

When the Tata Indicom engineer configured my connection he configured my static Ip on my PC so I tried that moving to router. but at this time when I get disconnected and say repair it doesnot get me back to connection,i.e. repair get me connection back only when I configure my Static IP on PC instead of Router.

If anyone of you have faced the same issue and got some resolution please share.

I would try the connection out on another computer or a laptop, that way you can know whether its you pc or the second grade tata equipment installed by third grade tata engineers is faulty or not. In my personal case the fault has 99.99% been on their end dealing their equipment.

running the connection on different PC i already tried. Anyways today TATA engineers came to my place and changed the Router to Teracom so connection is working fine till now let cross fingure.

Assumption is that Billion router Firmware is corrupted, which causes the problem. Also, a assumption came that Billion router's DHCP disable property is not working i.e. even you disable the DHCP in router the router try to get a new IP. But good thing is that its working now.

Problem re appeared:

Late Sunday night the issue re occured at this time i was not even able to ping Default Gateway i.e. Router, TATA Engineers came and found that there is some issue with this installed router so they taken it with them; probably they will install the new one today itself. Lets cross finger.

what can one expect with third grade hardware & engineers , infact we must refrain from calling them 'Engineers' , lets stick to line men purely out of respect for the Engineer.

Try Uninstalling your Network Drivers from Device Manager and Restarting PC.

Todays updates:

yesterday evening Tata engineer gave back the router i.e the first one Billion 5200S and forwarded me firmware for it.

Current status for the router was same it was disconnecting after a while and when i repair local area connection it again get back to connection.

So, I removed my existing network drivers and than I updated the firmware in the router to Ver 2.10.5.0 and reset and reconfigure the router, than I was able to connect to the internet but the disonnect problem persists.

Taking a next step from my side, using Netowrk Spy 2.0 i found that when ever netbios -dgm and netbios -ns (port 137 and port 138) comes in picture i get disconnection, to overcome this I disabled the netbios over TCPIP in my Lan setting, now the problem picture got changed .... I am able to connect to Internet but connection goes continue for around say 10-20 mins some times more and than it again get disconnection i.e. while pinging Default gateway i get Request Time Out for around 9-15 times and than it again get reconnected... so only one issue is resolved by disabling the Netbios that I need not to repair the connection again and again. But still the disconnection problem is there. I welcome your some idea share on this to dig more.

see if you can connect to 192.168.1.1
if you are able to login then u should see some diagnostics.. in my case all the router configuration was wiped off and i was stuck without net for 10 days! No Tata Indicom 'Engineer' came to help or assists.. i was repeatedly complaining and they were closing my request by saying "confirmed with user". I am not sure who was the user !! Must be their colleague or boss!!!

Sorry for late updates.

Well the issue with my TATA Indicom Braodband resolved now.
Acutally, no one was looking into the issue and i have tried all the things that i can do from my side. Than i raised the request to disconnet the connection

Than while comunicating with Customer Care on mail, in my next i kept most of the TATA group management people (national/international) but amazing thing, no body responded. than rereply on the same mail i added Times of India, Hindustan times, AAJTAk and Indian Express emails; with in 10min I received the call from Customer care that my issue will be resolved within the evening and all that worked on Friday evening 3 engineers came and verified everything and found that the DSLAM (device installed in the building) need some repair. They did the repair and my connection started working. Till now I have not faced any issue.

In India until some new revolution yet again doesn't come this all connectivity problems will be there no matter what even the top level management of all the isps knows about it and the revolution u can a miracle yet to come is NO CABLES HANGING AROUND THE STREETS and inshallah it will come one day unless our it policy makers don't sleep ignoring all that cable mess around every corner of our modern single window hi tech cities

Coming to the point about frequentdisconnection all the excuses are on one side even the top level Technical guys ( no matter what ever u call them Engineer or technician or not the least line man) it doesn't matter is also aware of the problem and they them self are not getting the soultion, its typical indian kinda attitude chaltha hai tho chalaoo faida hora kafi hai"

Single one can you provide me the emails of tata managment level and your area so that ican mail them and let them know that the problem i am facing and similiar problem faced by around 50 tata customers can be solved and there reputation will be protected, The same problem what you where facing is what i am facing now , the tata engineers came checked replaced router adviced but no use, i even suggested him that the problem was sure to be with DSlam side so please help me out in this regard

Watzzup just going through lot of blogs with ref to the matters related to the TATA indicom broadband consumers suffering and wanted to create a unified voice for all of us.
Hence you are requested to provide your vsnl/ tataindicom email id and user id complaint no.

i.e. you have tried all posible ways to solve this problem now you can ask your servise provider or network administrator.
there are too many problems with TI i prefer BSNL always.

Your solution is: Find a different service provider...however big a problem and money loss that may mean.
If you continue..
1) You can't register a complaint. Your system is working/showing usage...
2) After 2-3 weeks of fighting/escalation...you get a complaint #, which is closed immediately. Your system is working/showing usage...
3) Their server will fail
4) Your local connection will start failing...the issue is with cable and server in your locality...no one can do anything
5) YOU WILL BE CHARGED EXTRA ON YOUR PREPAID CONNECTION ... YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE SUSPENDED BEFORE YOUR ACTUAL END DATE.

Customer service will be as efficient as they are now

Once my issue was solved I have not faced any problem till date touch wood

If you change Service Provider chance to get similar service is around 90% so possibly you will again get stuck with same situation.

In my area I have heard that Reliance has similar bad service, same is the case with Airtel.

Rest all depends what all risk ready to take.
