Question How to change Tata Indicom ethernet ADSL modem password

    Hi folks,

I am kind of stuck in the following scenario -

I have Tata Indicom ADSL connection. They have provided me with the ZyXEL 600 series ethernet modem. I have a Windows 7 based desktop that this modem is connected to. My internet was working fine until a couple of days back when it suddenly stopped. For some reason I decided to login to the Tata Docomo online account and change my ADSL password. In the meanwhile I also managed to contact the customer support and they indicated that there is a problem on their end and it will be fixed.

Now when I turn on my ADSL modem, I see the following lights that are lit green - Power, DSL and Ethernet. However the Internet light is Red. I have a feeling it might be because I changed the ADSL password. I have been trying to figure out how to change the ADSL password on the modem. I read a post which said that try accessing the modem using the browser by typing 192.168.1.1 in the URL and then change it. However when I try to access that address, I get a page not found.

What is going wrong here? Did my changing the ADSL password cause this? If so, how do I fix this? I tried to login to the online account and set the password back to what it was however the website does not allow using an old password so I can't go back to the old password...

The customer service is really not good...Been on hold for significant amount of time and getting tired of calling them...

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

Yes. it might be a reason. why not upgrade the firmware to openwrt? your modem has chipset ar7. aka Texas electronics AR7 chipset and IIRC it has 4 MiB flash and 32 MiB ram. if you can install openwrt? you will be getting a performance in flying colors.
if you are in chennai? i can help you install openwrt, but it comes with a clause and condition. i am not responsible for any screw up.
check for username and password matching for adsl settings and modem settings, you might wish to press the reset button and start from scratch. else if you are in chennai? i can help you install openwrt.

Thanks for your help Paul. I appreciate your response. Couple of questions/comments -

How do I check for the username/password in the adsl and modem settings? I am on Windows 7 and I cannot find out how to launch (or where to find) the dialog/page that will show me and/or allow me to change the username/password for my adsl modem. I don't think there is a dialer shortcut on my desktop. I don't even know if I am supposed to have it..

What does the reset button do? Will it set the username/password to some default value?

I am not in chennai unfortunately and honestly i am not that technically savvy to install new firmware on the modem...

    Thanks again,

    no issues mate!
here you dont need a dialer, i beieve its connected via ethernet. so? this means you need to type 192.168.1.1 in the browser. and supply the username and password inorder to login into the modem. if you forget the username and pasword mostly besides the power button there is a hole which is labelled as reset. press it for 10-30 seconds. it will reset everything. be careful reset button resets everything all data wiped clean.
else supply the username and password of modem and login. and when you do? login in under networking tab look for adsl or pppoe login and password and vpi/vci setting. and thats it viola.
and secondly its not easy to install a different firmware. this one is really tricky. i did it for my friend and it gave me a run for my money. mine mine. highly tricky little chap.
feel free to clarify your doubts. i am like sleazing out today since tomorrow onwards i go back to my world. techie world. i may be a slowwwwwwwww replier from tomorrow.
