Default never ever buy any thing from Tata Indicom .. of as matter from tata

I had a Tata Indicom connection in my wife's name and recently I got a
lawyers notice to pay up or face consequence!!
The story goes like this ..
I am had been a subscriber to Tata Indicom's broadband connection from
August of 2007 to October of 2007. Due to dissatisfaction with the
service, I had requested to disconnect the service in the Month of
October 2007 and I have also paid my dues till same date. Inspite of
the fact that I canceled, the field staff did not come to pick the
equipment for a few months. After repeated call's to there call
center, they picked the equipment from my place in the month December
2006, but I continued to get the bills. Again, I had bought this
matter to the Tata Indicom's call center many times. In fact, I also
made a complainant through the internet in the Month of June 2007. I
got bills till July, and now they want to give me a bill for services
I never used!!

Have you given any written complaint on stopping the service from them or you just called them and asked them to stop the service? Because you should always get it in writing, so that you can get the proof or at least get them send them email and get it confirmed from them. Yes, we know it is absurd but this is the way we indians used to work.

I am learning it the hard way. They were billing me even after they took the router and left.
Unfortunately, I never took a receipt or in writing. In retrospect I should caught every thing on camera and posted on Youtube. Others please do that.
Record every thing on emails, paper, camera and voice. You never know when they send the lawgoons to you.
But its easier to just avoid taking a connection and discourages others from taking it.

I would say that it would be nice to face them in court as you just prove yourself that what you have gone through and i am sure that TATA would lose this case very much easily.

This process would take atleast 1 years and this is atleast. I dont think that this is a good idea. I think he should just disconnect and then go with Airtel.

Just go to their head quaters and tell then you have paid every thing and you would not pay for something which you have not used.

I also faced something similar and 6 months after i disconnected my phone connection one of their person came to pick up the phone and now this proves how punctual they are.

I have replied to the notice and given them a copy of the "proofs". If the lawyer is smart enough he will not go to court. If he does, let see. I will post the verdict. Infact, I am now planning to approach the consumer court. Anyways, I have moved to Zeenext first and now to Airtel. I would recommend both to every one. I also had a Tata indicom landline, I have just canceled that. And I was about to take a Tata Sky connection, but the notice just killed a customer for Tata.
BTW this time, I went to Tata office my self to return the phone ( though there is no refund of deposit) and got a written proof of the same.

I suggest you go to a consumer forum and complaint there... This will save you a lot of hassel.

Consumer courts are very pro consumer and you wont even have to spend any money. Another plus will be that your case might be decided in just one hearing depending upon what proofs you provide and a few other factors...

I also had the Tata Indicom wireless Phone connection and net connection for some time(till BSNL Broadband flagged off). While I disconnecting the Tata Indicom I wrote a letter for disconnection and personally handed over the all instruments. And also got the received seal in my letter. Did you so? If so you need not worry. You can show the proof and escape from the legal action.
