    Hi Maripaka

I have taken the Tata Wi Max connection in BANGALORE. Initially they seem to have had an offer where in i paid 3765 for 6 months including installation.

There were problems of configuration on my system and also some tower problems which they ironed out in around 3-4 days.

It is working fine for the last 2 days. The speed is really good.

Hope it will remain good and not fizzle out.

    hi saneethu,

In which area in bangalore have u taken the connection? im asking that because the signal and speed performances for wimax connections are varying hugely from area to area.

the Wimax connection is very much dependent on area., Some times you get very good signal ,

Am not sure if they give a static ip address, when ever i start my PC , i get different address ., sometimes the i dont get avalid ip address from DHCP., and shows amessage saying "limited connectivity"...,

I live on Sarjapur Road, and been using the WiMax for a week now. My signal strength is around -68dBm and the router shows 64QAM R34 coding. Even with a much lower signal strength, say enough for BPSK, i think we should be able to see 256kbps.

Update: after writing an email to their customer service dept, a couple of execs called me. They sent a technician over to see what was "wrong". That guy gave up and handed it back over to the original guys who did the installation. They came in and checked and found out that everything was OK in my premises, but some guy had messed up the configuration on the server.

Bottom line: they called the server room and made them recreate my account from scratch. It now works fine, and I get 1Mbps+ speed download (512Kbps upload). Now I am satisfied (it has been up and running for 2 weeks).

But, there is one issue that you have to be aware of - this is near-line-of-sight technology (i.e. unobstructed view of tower required). Signal strength WILL fluctuate due to atmospheric conditions. The problem is that the signal drops briefly (approximately once every 3 minutes or so), but then comes back on 15 seconds later. This is not a problem when you are browsing, or downloading files (since there is a built-in time out that does not occur with brief outages of 15 seconds). But it is definitely a problem if you attempt VOIP or Video Conferencing. So, if your primary usage is going to be VOIP or Video, then you may want to reconsider.

I have found that WiMax is a big no-no for VPN connections also because of frequent broken connections.
