Thread: Broadband ...really????

Hey guys,
This Q has been on my mind for a long long time..its only now i came across this site while searching for an answer...I have a tata connection with unlimited 256kbps broadband. Now, whar I would like to know is what broadband really means. According to the TRAI definition broadband is specified as an always on download speed of 256kbps. It specifies "DOWNLOAD" speed. But i have a download speed of only 30 odd kbps. I think this is true for all service providers providing 256kbps speed. Here's the link to the definition

Well this is the surfing speed that you get. Like if they tell you that you would get 256 kbps then you wuld get 256 kbps surfing speed and as of the download speed it is 1:8 that means that what ever they say you would get 8 times of that.

hmm...thanks for the reply..i get what u are saying but i'm confused with the defnition that TRAI has given which specifically says download speed of 256kbps...maybe i'm reading too much into it

Have they mentioned any difference between Surfing speed and downloading speed where you were reading about this?

I think there is a little mis concept. Like there i a killo bit and killo byte and i think in the rule you are reffering to they have mentioned killio bit not killo byte.
