I got tata indicom prepaid wimax installed at my house and wanted use it for office connectivity but the nortel vpn contivity client fails to establish the connection. I contacted indicom support people and came to know that cisco vpn clients can establish the connection. but it is not supported by my office. After debugging, the problem what i think is with the ip address that is assigned to me by WIMAX. Windows debugging tools reports the client was unable to bind to this address. To support my theory: My PC gets ip address address from dhcp server and the ip address is 10.x.x.176 gateway 10.x.x.x. Since this range is private address and can't be routed over internet, the wimax should NAT the address the sent out of ISP.If this is not done then wimax fails I crossed checked with people who are using BSNL,tata indicom usb connect, reliance wimax and my vpn client works with thier ip address. The ip address assigned by these ISP are not 10.x.x.x but an non private address. Wimax people are suggesting me to go for postpaid, is it going to solve my problem? Venky

And what logic are they providing when they say get a post paid connection? I suggest you send them an e-mail and get a written reply as some one writing something is a bit more careful before bullshitting to a customer as compared to talking over the phone... in my experience.

rajsanth, I got a post paid WiMax connection last week. My static ip too is of 121.xxx.xxx.xxx type. I am able to connect through cisco vpn to my office. no issues. venkyn, When i spoke to the installation person who came to my home, he did quote that the pre-paid connections have some issues. He mentioned that during peak hours there are problem with their DHCP server in densely deployed areas. [e.g., koramangala in bangalore].

Going for postpaid is not at all a good option. My friends had a real bad time with postpaid.

Actually, does VSNL allow shifting from pre-paid to post-paid? I asked Customer Care some days ago and they said it is not possible.

Well...Am not quite sure on that.... Instead of calling the customer care , I advice you drop a mail to them and they will get back to u in 24 hours. The people who reply to your mail will be the senior engineers who will be having a good knowladge. If u call up the customer care, they might just give u a vague answer with the fear of replying to your questions.

I too just got a tata indicom Wimax installed at home and now I find that cannot VPN into office servers. The most exasperating part of it is the BS that you get from their help desk. They have had infact asked me to update the IP pool on my public IP VPN!!! which has no restrictions on connecting IP's. I am very disappointed at the techinical expertise of people manning their assitance the have. Leaves me no choice but cancel the connection or force them to move me to a post paid.
