Follow the instructions from the router manual to change the Router Settings. Connect the cable from the PoE box "Data IN" port to the routers "Internet" port (Blue Port). Connect the LAN cable from the Ethernet Port (marked 1 - 4) behind the Router to your PCs network Card (RJ45 Interface). Once your Wireless link is UP you can remove this cable. Change the computer IP to 192.168.1.20 with default subnet mask. Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1(this is the default IP address of Linksys router)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Click WAN icon
Enter the username and Password (refer the manual for Username & password)

Select "Setup" from top Left corner

Enter the Values given by the service provider for the "Basic Setup"

INTERNET SETUP (e.g.)
Internet Connection Type : Select "Static IP from the drop down list"
Internet IP Address: 121.243.x.x (your Static IP provided by VSNL)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.x
Gateway: 121.243.x.x
Static DNS 1: input the first DNS IP address provided bythe service provider
Static DNS 2: input the Second DNS IP address provided by the service provider

Optional Settings
Leave this field as it is

Local IP Address : 192.168.1.10
Note: remember this IP address. Next time you have to type 192.168.1.10 to access the router configuration page.
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Server Settings (DHCP)

Client Lease Time : 0
Default gateway : 0.0.0.0
WINS : 0.0.0.0

Time Settings
Don’t change the default settings

Don’t change the default values of "DDNS", "MAC Address Clone", "Advance Routing" and "WAN Port Configure" unless your are familiar with these settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the Top Select "Wireless"
Basic Settings
Wireless network Mode : Mixed
Wireless Network Name (SSID) : MyNetwork

Leave MAC Filtering and Advance Settings

-----------------------------------------------

Leave "Security", "Access Restrictions” and "Applications and Gaming" with the default values.

---------------------------------------------

Click on Administration from the "Management Option" and change the Router Password . Enable Wireless Web management Access and disable Remote management. Leave all other settings with their default Values.

-----------------------------------------------

Click on “Save Settings” at the bottom. This will save the configuration and will reinitialize the router. You will loose the connection to the router at this time. Take the TCP/IP properties of your computer and change the settings to “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS address automatically”. Reboot the Computer and verify the computer has obtained an IP from the router DHCP Lease.Type “ipconfig /all’ at command prompt to check this. To access the Router configuration page again type 192.168.1.10
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your PC/Laptop is not configured for a wireless connection, install the appropriate driver and enable the connection or take the help from the vendor. At this time you can remove the Input the key which you have entered in the router configuration page (Under Wireless security - key 1: ). To configure the Starmax box, refer to some other links given elsewhere in this thread. If you experience any problem, Switch off PoE, Router and computer. Reboot PoE first, Router second and computer third

Thank you for giving such a detailed explaination...... I could complete all steps of Router Configuration as you mentioned...... My connection is a Reliance's WiMAX with a PoE box...... So your description exactly matches my case.......

Now after having configured the Router, my Laptop gets an IP 192.168.1.100...... Is this IP ok??? and if it is, then still my Internet is not working...... The WAN icon in the Router Setup page shows my ISP's IP...... (123.xxx.yyy.zzz)..... So is it ok for my Laptop to have a different IP like 192.168.1.100....... (I understand that the Network Address Translation servers should do the job of Local and Global IP mapping/translation, is that right...??).... But finally the internet is not working..... Where could the problem be...??

Plus, my laptop has a Intel Pro(R)/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection hardware...... There's a big Red cross on that icon..... Seemingly to suggest that there's no wireless connectivity present..... Do I have to configure anything for this hardware item to detect & establish Wireless network connectivity....?? When I check its properties, it shows that this hardware is running ok...... Currently, I have only my laptop getting connected to the router...... I did all the configurations with the RJ45 Cat 5 cable connected between the Router and my laptop....... When should one remove that cable and go wireless.....??? How should I find out whether the Router is transmitting wireless....??
